Letter to Minister of Health

Good Day Mr Aaron Motsoaledi

On behalf of all grateful South African who want to thank you but are unable to do so, I will like to take this opportunity and thank you for caring for them.  There is some sense of stability amongst ill or sick South Africans, some people are starting to have confidence in our Health system and that can only be attributed to your dedication and your in-depth knowledge in health matters.

Not long ago you re-assured South Africans that, the country was not at any risk of running low on essential medicines, that was indeed a relieve to all the infected and those affected.

Minister; the purpose of my letter was not only to applaud but it was also to ask you to spend few minutes of your time and think about our neglected daughters, partners, mothers or our female counterparts who suffer from Endometriosis, I use the word neglected because that is exactly how those women feels at this moment in time.

For the benefit of those who might not be sure of what this is, below is a brief explanation about Endo as it is normally referred to as;

Endometriosis is a disease of the female reproductive system that affects women during childbearing age (from her first period until menopause), it is believed that it affects 1 in every 10 women worldwide and symptoms can be detected during puberty and it is believed to be the leading contributor to infertility amongst woman.

Can endometriosis be cured? Some women claimed to have been cured through one operation, while others went for more than six operations and they still not cured, so the best placed person to answer that question is our health Minister and doctors.

Even though some women feel that there is really no cure for endometriosis, at least they do believe in some treatments which can greatly improve their quality of life; however those treatments do not come cheap and our public hospitals are silent about this chronic illness.

The suffers of Endo, experience excruciating pain on a daily basis, some of those women can barely walk depending on the severity of the pain, a day without pain for some of those women is normally greatly appreciated and that hardly happened for them.

Those women are labeled as being lazy by some employers and some of them have been fired from the work place as result of their continuously absenteeism from the work place and yet we expect them to foot the private hospital bills and not sure as to how.

I therefore urge you; minister to please look into this matter and either cater for such illness (including operations) in our public hospitals or we at least look at means of subsidizing those who are suffering from such illness when going to private hospitals or alternatively our government should foot the bill of those patients hence our hospitals does not cater for such illness.

I am making such a suggestions simply because it is difficult for those women to get a job and sustain their jobs while suffering from Endo and also based on the costliness of such treatment.

To all my Endo sisters, please hold on, there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel, we understand your pain and we pray with you for you.

Thanks for your anticipated positive reaction.
