I am currently studying my Masters in Psychology through the University of Liverpool and am looking for participants for my online survey. This study seeks to examine if socioeconomic variables are correlated with Abraham Maslow’s needs levels in South African adults.
Abraham Maslow created a theory that psychological well-being is dependent upon need satisfaction. Needs are structured in a pyramid-like fashion starting with the lower needs such as the want for food, air and water then moving up to more complex ones to safety, love, confidence and finally self-actualization- the highest state of well-being.
In this study, these needs levels can be compared against race, age, gender, education level, job title and income bracket too see which has the highest and lowest needs satisfaction. This can help understand if certain demographics have established more or less positive growth than others towards psychological well-being or self-actualization as defined by Abraham Maslow. These comparisons are important to look at because they have been profoundly impacted by policies in the countries past causing discrimination in income, education and job types (Seekings, 2007; Nix, 2007).
I need people living in South Africa that are over the age of 18 years old and it takes 10-15 minutes to participate. South Africa is a diverse place and by participating people will help ensure that their sociodemographic group is included in the research. Participation will also enable people to see the results of this research once published and learn more about the current state of mind in South Africa in terms of needs and how they relate to socioeconomic variables.
Participation is completely voluntary and people can withdraw at any time. Participation is greatly appreciated.
