Dear Mr Mbalula
You are the minister of sport and therefore, I believe your best interests should be to improve Sport in the country as a whole. Instead of focussing on implementing unfair practices where people are advantaged because of their skin colour, rather focus on making sport more accessible to everyone in the country. This will attract more support over a bigger audience and will eventually offer better quality sportsman. After all, should watching sport not be a basic right?
At the moment watching sport is a very elite privilege, enjoyed by a very small percentage of the population. This is because of Multichoice’s exorbitant pricing and ruling monopoly in South Africa. One cannot watch South African sport without being on Multichoice’s PREMIUM platform, costing in excess of R700! Regular South Africans cannot afford it in this day and age.
Instruct the competition commission to investigate sports rights in the country, and make sport available on South Africa’s free to air television channels. Simple. Much simpler than trying to justify a R234 mil home.
While this is not done, one cannot help but wonder who is getting paid by Multichoice to keep their agreement in place.
Perhaps, the reason why transformation is so slow is because less privileged people don’t have access to sport. Just think about it. It all makes sense.
Yours truly
