Mashaba: On Sekola vs Bhengu...

Going to the Cosafa Cup, Bafana Coach ‘Shakes’ Mashaba spoke his mind regarding the two top goal scorers of the Premier Soccer League and of the National First Division, Moeketsi Sekola and Phumelele Bhengu, respectively.

Mashaba said that there is one thing we need to be careful of. “There are different levels that we participate in, and the pressure is also different. You’ll hear people saying that player in the NFD has 10 goals and the player in the PSL has eight. That doesn’t mean that the player in the NFD is better. It is the pressure that is there in the different levels of participation.”

Sometimes we need to be realistic and face the facts, one of the facts is Bhengu scored 22 goals and Sekola scored 14. It is usually said that numbers do not lie.

Does that not say Bhengu was better than Sekola this season, regardless of the said different levels? If we speak of pressure are we then saying PSL strikers cannot handle the pressure? How many goals does Aguero have in the EPL?

We all know the road as a coach anywhere is indeed not smooth; it is a bumpy one and makes the ride uncomfortable, while the unclear colors of the comments made may make the ride even less joyful. Let us enlighten each other on this matter. What was Mr. Mashaba actually saying?

Did Bhengu not score more goals than Sekola? Is the PSL too hot for the strikers to handle?
