People make such a big deal about matric when really it isn't worth it. It would be nice for there to be some sort of society auditor that would investigate whether or not certain things are worth while. It would be nice to see the actual value that a matric certificate intrinsically has. Here I am racking my brain trying to come up with an idea for a business. I can't. Well is it because I'm stupid? Well... maybe. Somehow I doubt that I am. You see school is pretty much designed for people to be employees. The format of school is: Here's a bunch of stuff. Learn it. Here's a test. Regurgitate what you were told to learn. Those of us that are the best at it get called smart, clever and even intelligent. That's non-sense!
How does regurgitating information teach one to think for themself? These ideas started floating in my head when my nephew was doing his economic and management science project. They were tasked with finding information on entrepreneurs and creating a poster based on that. I couldn't see the point/lesson behind the activity so I asked, "What do you guys learn in EMS?" My nephew told me they've been learning about entrepreneurs. So he rattles a list of 5 attributes entrepreneurs should have. He mentioned "innovative" and "creative" among others. By the way he didn't know innovative and creative were pretty much the same thing, but I digress. So I asked him what exercises they do in class to hone these skills they learned they need to be entrepreneurs. Short answer: They don't. Which is my point. What is the purpose of learning these stupid lists that tell you what you need instead of training you to get them?
There is no value in a matric certificate. You've been trained to take orders and you leave that way. Next step is to go to university to rinse and repeat. Except you at least can get a job. South Africa has an unemployment problem yet we are channeling people to be job seekers knowing full well that they may not get jobs. Ha ha ha ha it's such a goddamn joke.
