My disillusion with the “new atheists”

Growing up I have always doubted the beliefs I was raised with, the story of Adam and Eve seems preposterous to me even at a young age, the story of the mud man and the rib woman being duped by a talking apple selling snake seemed almost indistinguishable from the Disney fairy tales I grew up watching, some were more believable when you consider the 600 year old Noah and his floating zoo,

When I grew older I shifted from agnostic lite to full blown atheism, I searched for intellectual weaponry to wage a war against ignorance and stumbled on the likes of the late great Christopher Hitchens and the ever sharp Sam Harris who took me on the journey of a life time.  Their ability to articulate themselves and the ease at which they rebutted their opponents left me in awe of their intellectual might, after having devoured almost all their books and online debates I felt that I was prepared to wage a battle…

After having sufficiently quenched my thirst for all things blasphemous I then shifted my attention to world events of past and present, having always had a morbid interest with war and mass murder I gravitated to the ridiculous distraction called the  “war on terror”.

Again for a more comprehensive understanding of the events taking place around the world and I looked towards my idols. I was perplexed to discover that prior to, during and after the Iraq invasion Christopher Hitchens supported the disastrous war. During the latest pogrom of the Palestinian people by the rouge apartheid state of Israel Sam Harris the founder and president of the reason society said he could not find it in him to criticise Israel and recently in an exchange with professor Noam Chomsky Sam sounded like a paid apologist of American imperialism.

When a certain Wez1 published an articles attempting badly to polish the self  defiled imagine of Zionism and a whitewash of its consequences I was expecting my atheist brethren on news24 to dismantle his petty apologetics but to my surprise, a lot of people I expected to comment never showed.

Then again considering that all atheist are is just people who don’t believe in gods, it doesn’t seem to shield one from other self-induced delusions, racism and bigotry.
