Not voting is stupid!

By not voting you are saying to the current political party in power “Well done, you are doing a great job.” The only way you can voice your dissatisfaction to this is to vote and reduce the percentage the ruling party enjoys. You might not find a political party that fits exactly what your political beliefs stand for but you will find one that is close enough. Vote for them rather.

We all have a duty to ensure that every person that is registered to vote votes in a mature and adult manner and furthermore should encourage and educate others to do so irrespective of political beliefs.

Spoiling your vote is childish and stupid, much like what Ronnie Kasrils and Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge are. They are in the political wilderness as such and have no real future in politics so their call is just pure bitterness and self-serving.

Spoilt votes are just that, spoilt. They do not count at all and therefore do not reduce the majority’s winning margin. Why stand in a queue to waste your democratic right and time, rather use it and make a real difference.

In the 2009 elections there were 239 237 spoilt votes and if these were rather used to voice your right it would have reduced the winning parties margin by 1.35%. This might not sound like a large margin but it could be the difference between totalitarian rule and democracy.

Each and every South African over the age of 18 has a Constitutional right to vote and should exercise that responsibility. By not voting you have no say in how your country is run by those in power and you then have no right to complain about anything.
