To President Jacob Zuma
Re The State of South Africa
Let me introduce myself. I am a white law abiding tax paying citizen of this beautiful country but have my concerns about my future within this country. Just watching the news last night has put me in a serious state of depression. Hijackings where in an innocent four year old boy is barbarically killed, NUMSA strikes straight after the platinum belt strike crippling our stunning country, Corruption of the highest form and the list goes on.
I have now decided that I am going to try and make a difference in this stunning country instead of my complaining with my neighbours before a big rugby match around the preverbal Saturday braai.
First, a bit of history about myself. I was born in 1976 in Johannesburg. This does make me a white South African. I was never imported from another country, and believe it or not, my parents, grandparents and great grandparents where all born in this great country, so I am sure that I am over qualified to be a South African. I do not come from a rich family and everything I achieved was done by me. ( I put myself through college, etc.) And not by some cash that my father had stashed away somewhere.
In fact my father left us when we were really young and we had to fend for ourselves, only later on did he come back into our lives and we supported him until the day he took his last breath ( in my arms) in 2012. My Mother on the other hand is a brilliant, courageous person who taught me to be liberal in my thinking and to judge not by colour but by the person’s values. She lived with these values as I can bear witness to her hiding an ANC official in our garage for a few days at the height of the late eighty protests when all the white policeman where looking for the afore mentioned individual.
A great task indeed as we lived in a really white conservative little town. I was one of the few white kids who did not sign up to join the AWB to the detriment of my youth and lost lots of friends (and accomplished many unwanted beatings at school as well).
The dawn of 27 April 1994 came with huge excitement for me personally. My vote was going to change the face of South Africa! I was a fresh eighteen year old and ready! Hell, I even counted votes for 24 hours nonstop after the election to get to a result!!!! I am not going to go into the next 20 years as we know the history and well it is history.
Bring on 2014 and it is with utter disappointment that I look onto this country, remembering the hope I had in 1994. I want to point out some problems and as a total layman believe that we can work together to solve these problems.
Right, let us get to the main reason of my letter. The problems………..
· Violent striking in our country.
· Criminals on the rampage, holding all law abiding citizens to ransom
· Taxi drivers( not All of them)
· The unemployment rate
· Rand dollar exchange
· Bafana Bafana
· Jub-Jub
· Service delivery
· Bribing officials
· Jacque Kallis
· Drug abuse
· Reverse racism
And the list goes on. But let us deal with these few issues Mr President and in my next letter to yourself we will deal with some more. Being a semi intelligent South African, I am not just going to put all the issues on your shoulders but I am also going to come up with solutions to the best of my ability. So please Sir bear with me.
Violent strikes in S.A.
Now as stated before, I am an open minded liberal individual and understand the need to strike for better wages. These people have been oppressed and earn a minimum wage. The problem I have Mr. President is the violence of these strikes. If you don’t believe me please go to www.youtube.com/Numsa strikes and see the videos of what some of these people are doing. Jiss man, a Kia Picanto through a fence into a truck, I assure you Sir that the driver was not “practicing” for an up and coming dice down the N1 on a Sunday evening, this person feared for their life man! I can assure you this person was being chased by a mob!
And all this because they wanted to improve their life and not strike, but chose to work. Where is the freedom of choice here? I seriously believe our unions are crippling our country man! Should these union leaders also live in 5 months of poverty not earning a salary and making huge debts at loan sharks ( 30% per month) I would believe that there hearts where in it and that they fight for the oppressed, yet they live in their mansions, sipping JW blue at the expense of the oppressed and cannot come to an agreement within 5 months?
Come on Sir, the wool can only go soo far down. I understand your predicament as well Mr Zuma, The union is holding our current ruling party to ransom with the promise of their vote. They are prostitutes Mr President offering there “vote” to the best deal on the table. Even I am getting a sore neck from watching there tennis match antics with their vote volleying from the ANC to the EFF. The solution, we need to stem these guys and not let them have so much power in our country, we need to let them understand that without a Company employing people there would be NO unions, no unions equals no more JW Blue. Makes one think, hey? Now on to the real criminals……
