Open letter to Premier Helen Zille

Madam Premier of the Western Cape

Please advise on the following matter. After kidney failure people need a new kidney or dialysis to live. If you do not get dialysis, toxins will build up in your blood and water will fill your lungs and you will die. Dialysis is the process whereby you attend hospital three times per week and a machine will remove the toxins from your blood.

Tygerberg Hospital has a selection policy endorsed by WC government and those who do not qualify are sent home to die. I have witness people being sent home and I was one of them. I was told that if I do not get dialysis I would die within three days as my creatinine was over 3000. On the second day I went into a semi-coma and could not breath anymore, blood came through my nostrils. That same day a private company agreed to provide me with dialysis for a year. I had people fighting for me. Many people are not so fortunate as they have no-one fighting for them. The result is that they die a painful death. Toxins will build up and your body will swell and your lungs will be filled with water once this occur you have difficulty breathing and you die. Kidney Failure is common and if the government can provide ARV to HIV patients they can provide Dialysis to everyone with Kidney Failure.

Please fight for those who cant fight anymore for themselves. Once toxins build up you are so sick that you are ready to die but after a two to three sessions on dialysis you are fit and you think clearly. How dare the WC government decide who may live, based on their non medical criteria.
