Oscar Pistorius: A barefaced liar

Oscar Pistorius’ trial for murder will not be fair.  How can it be? Even in the minds of those who believe that he is as guilty as sin of killing Reeva Steenkamp in cold blood still lingers this admiration for him. And why not? Oscar Pistorius is a hero. That is undoubted.  You just have to remember London 2012 when he competed against able bodied sprinters. That made him an international icon. Perhaps this is what blinded us to the minor indiscretions that he allegedly committed along the way.

The boat accident, the restaurant shooting incident, the threats to a fellow athlete are examples.  It was easy to brush them off lightly in view of the man’s significance to the country. But deeper analysis of Pistorius will show another side to him.  He is a barefaced liar. This is a side that was well hidden by his achievements. The problem with lying is that you can only tell lies for so long. At the London games, able bodied athletes claimed Pistorius had an unfair advantage because of his blades.  He had to fight this accusation in order to compete. After losing his Paralympics title Pistorius accused the winner of that race of having longer blades, thereby enjoying an advantage? He lied about the blades having some sort of advantage or non, lied about having alcohol in the boat, lied about the shooting in the restaurant, lied about threatening to break some one’s legs and more importantly he is lying about what happened on the morning of February 14.

I have read his affidavit and like a sieve it fails to hold water. There are many points that can be argued, but the one point that sticks out like a sore thumb is when he claims to have heard a noise coming from the bathroom. I also at times have a girlfriend sleep over. A few times I have come awake during the night after hearing a noise in the kitchen or lounge. Each of those times I did not rush off to investigate before looking at my partner. Who is Pistorius trying to fool by claiming his first thought was that a burglar was in the bathroom instead of Reeva? Surely it was easier to check if Reeva was on the bed since he had to get the pistol from under the bed.

Pistorius claims he shouted to Reeva to call the police as he made his way to gun down the supposed intruder. Would it not have been better to shake Reeva while he was by the bed side? And if we are to give him the benefit of the doubt, Reeva is in the toilet and he is shouting that whoever is inside must get out, would she not have responded that she is the one in the toilet? According to his affidavit the bathroom light was on as he could see that there was no one in the bathroom. Seriously now, which burglar would put lights on? Too many statements do not add up.

Already a detective has been removed from the case. The accused is sleeping at a police station. His website has put up a page in his support. He is a man of many means,  but for once can the justice system look beyond the cheetah blades and these means and deliver a fair trial. A precious life has been lost. Let the truth come out
