You may not like what you are going to hear about the OP trial here but someone needs to say it, so I will take the punch with your thumbs downs and the rest of it, the latter comes quite easily to most of us. It takes very little to make us sad, angry, ugly etc, I think the real problem is there is a lot of undiscovered mental illness in our society. Now that that is out of the way, back to OP Trial, I will do bullet points, easier and faster:
· Oscar Pistorius is not responsible for all the crime in our country and there is no reason why he should pay for all of it. We are all responsible for it, yes we are. You remember the time that girl/boy in your class was bullied and you kept quiet about it, you became an accomplice. The times when you have known the rapist, thieve and murderer and you kept quiet you became as guilty.
· Oscar Pistorius was a first time offender who showed a lot of remorse, whether this was genuine or not is irrelevant, the court has to deal with hard evidence before it.
· Even though it seems like we are all relevant in this matter , we are NOT. We are angry at crime in general not necessarily at Oscar, he just happened to be in the way. Yes, much like what we do in traffic when someone cuts infront of us, allow the UGLY to come to the fore, swear and overreact.
· A family has lost their daughter, the Steenkamps and it is solely up to them whether they want to forgive Oscar or not. No, no one cares how you feel, you are emotional in any case about everything, traffic example above refers.
· Speaking of emotions, a court of law works with hard evidence put before it, your emotional response to this matter had zip impact on the outcome. Perhaps the media is responsible for your expectations and belief that you are a law expert but this is the nature of the law. It is important that you find closure, reconcile with the fact that you know very little about the judiciary and move on. Sorry, I know it sounds a bit harsh, that is why I am hiding my real name.
· What happened in the Oscar trial has nothing to do with race. Jub Jub got a similar sentence (8 Years) for culpable homicide after ploughing into 4 innocent children and leaving 2 mentally disabled. Someone in Cape Town got 8 years for ‘killing’ 10 children by ignoring signs not to cross the railway and got hit by the train.
· Oscar is just a human being, much like all the guys we know, a little arrogant, Mr Smartie pants, a bit of a jerk, a cheat etc, yeah exactly like that guy you just thought of , the only difference is that he is an internationally renowned athlete. Why must he be held to a different standard when it comes to a crime he has committed? Why where you not up in arms when Anene Booysen was killed so horribly. You don’t have double standards? Think again.
Sorry to crush you cookie like that, but someone needs to bring you back to reality. Oscar is not really responsible for your anger South Africa.
