A statement by Minister of Police Riah Phiyega That South African " must do our bit by securing our properties " left me incoherent with rage. Having recovered my voice I am now motivated to say the following : clearly the Honourable Minister has abrogated the duty of the SAPS to protect the citizens of this country! What then is the purpose of the SAPS?
We pay vast amounts of tax...what for ? Surely part of what we contribute goes to funding the SAPS? Can we claim a refund for what we are forced to spend on our security ?
Those of us who are able spend huge amounts every month on our security. Armed Response, and elaborate security systems and we STILL get robbed!
What about people who cannot afford to do " our bit" who cant afford alarm systems and armed response.? Since she has now admitted that the SAPS cant protect them...what must they do. Are they simply to be left at the mercy of the rampaging criminals ?
