I had a short dream this morning.
We were out fishing somewhere but the clouds came up and the weather looked bad. Winds were howling and rains were threatening.
So we did not fish. Then i noticed that the heavy clouds are all but a narrow band of thunder storms which will soon pass over.
The next moment we were out in full sunshine and we returned to fish but my fishing gear were not set up.
I am a lazy fisherman and I fish for my own pleasure. There are many days on which to fish so I for one will not go out and fish when the weather looks bad.
But this dream is not about fishing or the weather.
I believe that dreams have meaning and that it is one of the ways God communicates with individuals on a one on one basis. There are many examples of where people received messages from God in the Bible. Or insights into things to come.
So this morning I read my online Bible which led me to Ecclesiastes 11:4 "He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap."
I then tried to understand the context off all of this so I read further. I read the whole chapter.
For me it is quite clear what the message is. It's two fold:
Firstly God is telling me to keep on going with all the ways I employ to market my business services. I do all kinds of things to get more work in and i am busy with a variety of strategies. And such is life. One never knows when the fish will bite.
Secondly I am also called to be a fisher of men for God's kingdom and so is it the duty of each and every Christian. To have a complete fishing rod means to be ready and equipped with a special tool to win souls for the Kingdom of God. In my dream my fishing rod was not ready and lying on the rocks in a bit of disaray , not properly set up as can be expected when the weather is bad.
I am not one of those "I love Jesus" freaks. I tend to not get so emotional about the issue unless I have a bit of wine, often too much dismay and disgust of family and friends. I guess as one gets older and the responsibilities increase with families one becomes a little less emotional and more rational in your way of thinking.
Yet I shall take a moment and ponder more about the meaning of the dream. On a very practical level I am motivated to continue with the marketing initiatives I have undertook to market my business. The not so clear level is the spiritual message which may be contained regarding being a fisher of men and not having your equipment in check because the weather looks adverse.
I view myself of being more of a spiritual Christian. Someone who experiences God on a spiritual one on one level. What is interesting is that God more often than not is the first to initiate a conversation. He seeks me when I am not seeking Him. He is good to me when I am not even good to my fellow human beings, when I am busy with the wrong things in life, sin.
I have come to realise that the days of selling Jesus and Christianity because it leads to a prosperous and happy place , visible to all will never come.
God's Kingdom , I believe has come but it is not always clearly visible as it exists in the lives of men and woman who accepted Christ for who He is. It's not going to make you rich , neither is it going to make you popular. It will not even resolve your marital or financial problems.
It will however give you eternal life and peace beyond understanding. That Christ is the way, the truth and the life that I can say amen too.
By sharing this story I am rigging up my fishing rod and I am casting no matter what the weather looks like, also in a spiritual way fulfilling the great commission , to spread the gospel of peace. The same gospel that is often perverted for evil purposes like money and power. Money for the false prophets and power for the evil rulers.
This is my kind of religion. Having two way communications, a relationship.
