Sex Decriminalised for South African Kids

I’m all for the new amendment to the sex act regarding kids in South Africa. It’s disturbing how many people are hysterical about it on the net, some claiming, bizarrely, that it promotes pedophilia.

When did making kids criminals replace parenting and community education? When did blaming kids for natural hormones become ok? Where’s logic, practicality and the acceptance of being human?

Despite attending an all-boys school, most had shared their virginity. I hadn’t and threatened to burst from the fact of it. The worst thing that could have happened (which did) is that my parents never spoke to me about it. Pretty much everything was Satan’s work to my mother and she subscribed to a faith of No No No (her falling pregnant at 16 only taught her denial). If you don’t provide education, sex will become a question seeking answers… sometimes the wrong ones.

If i had gotten ‘lucky’, i wouldn’t have been traumatised as an adult. I certainly should never have been treated as a criminal or gone to hell if i had. How could any parent want that for a child they love?

So 12-15-year-olds get a free pass for doodling as would a 19-year-old who had sex with a 17-year-old. Good because, i repeat, they are not criminals!

I’m not advocating kids get their jollies before gaining emotional maturity. I just don’t want them to be scarred for life as criminals if they do. Don’t make “sex” a bad word. It’s the only reason why you and i exist. Take the taboo out of it and repeat after me: SEX IS NORMAL. Teach positive sex, not negative attitudes about sex. If parents don’t grow up about it then how can kids?
