Should we believe Presidential Poll Prophecies?

Recently a colleague asked me a question on the prophecies that have been circulating around the online media. My friend asked me if I could judge which Prophecy was correct. He also wanted me to find out from me if it was wise for the Zambians to believe prophecies.

My friend’s question came after online media published a report from Malawi where a Pastor was reported to have said the UPND President would win the 20 January, 2015 Presidential Poll. MaraviPost reported that controversial  Malawian Prophet Austin Liabunya had Prophesied that the leader of opposition United Party for National Development(UPND), Hakainde Hichilema would emerge as the new President of Zambia when the country goes to polls on 20th January, 2015. Liabunya said this during a night of cross over service he conducted in the township of Area 23 at Music Crossroads tent in Malawi’s administrative capital Lilongwe in the wee hours of 1st January, 2015.

“What will happen in Zambia during the coming elections is similar to what happened in Malawi during her elections” said the Prophet to a listening congregation adding, “there will be fake alliances among political parties.”“They will not win; God will scatter them by fire.”

“I see stealing of votes from him. He simply needs prayer so that this issue of stealing votes from him should not happen otherwise God has said he will win….and if they will steal his votes, there will be chaos again just like it was with Malawi,” said the man of God.

Last year, the prophet hinted that Zambia will have a youthful president soon. When pressed at the time, he did not elaborate on the name of the youthful person who will lead Zambia.

While Flamboyant Nigerian Joshua Iginla of championsroyalassembly.com is also reported to have said that PF Candidate Edgar Lungu would emerge winner during the forthcoming Presidential By Elections. The Prophet revealed to his congregation on December 2014 that Edgar Changwa Lungu will be winner and must ensure that he carries other members to campaign.

The Prophet further went on to urge Edgar Lungu to pray to avoid what happened to Michael C. Sata not to befall on him. The prophet went also on to say that Zambia will this year (2015) discover oil that will benefit the nation.

So what is Prophecy? Prophecy is a process in which one or more messages communicated to a prophet are then communicated to others. Such messages typically involve divine inspiration, interpretation, or revelation of conditioned events to come . The process of prophecy especially involves reciprocal communication of the prophet with the (divine) source of the messages. Throughout history, clairvoyance has commonly been used as an adjunct to prophecy. Various concepts of prophecy are found throughout all  of the world's religions and cults. To a certain degree prophecy can be an integral concept within any religion or cult.

The Bible encourages us to welcome Prophecy. We should welcome prophecies, but we should always test Prophecy with Scriptures. Apostle Paul in Thessalonians says encourages us not to treat prophecies with contempt, but to test every Prophecy.

As Zambia goes to the polls, many prophecies would emerge. They will announce the winner before the ballot box is openned. They will anoint some Presidential candidate and declare them as God anointed. They would denounce other candidates and promote their own.

In this regard I wish to inform all Zambians that there are no perfect prophets. There are very few perfect prophecies.  Let’s test every prophecy with scripture. Even if a word comes from a "big name" prophet, we should not assume that it is correct.

Christians often feel guilty about rejecting a Prophecy , because it came from a well-known prophet. They should remember that prophets with big reputations will still be wrong at times. In fact, because there is more pressure on them to prophesy, they will make more frequent mistakes. There is no shame in rejecting their prophecy, if it is tested and found to be incorrect.

There are no perfect prophets. Even the Old Testament prophets got things wrong at time. During this period we must become more relaxed and comfortable in dealing with political prophecies and gimmicks, so that they can be discarded without drama.

Jesus warned that false prophets and deceivers would come upon the earth, and that even some of the elect would be deceived by them. False prophets have been present in the world in every age, but they are particularly common in times of tumult like our present age. We have seen a great outburst of prophetic activity, with all kinds of individuals and cults claiming to have the truth.

In this situation the church not only needs prophets who speak God's truth, but must also learn to discern the true from the false. Whenever God releases a particular gift in the world, Satan tries to release a counterfeit of that gift. We can be sure that as God restores the prophetic ministry, Satan will try and raise up false prophets.

So, should we believe Presidential Prophecies? My advise believe in them if they are inline and consistent with the scriptures of God. God bless.
