A government that loses its moral authority ceases to govern. Instead, it will begin to rule and thus become intolerant of accountability, transparency and democratic processes.
The withholding of damaging information from the public will become a dire necessity and will therefore require enforced secrecy. The political elite will sacrifice the virtue of independent thinking on the altar of sycophancy.
Under such rule, the police service will become a paramilitary police force. A subversion of the rule of law will also occur and the president will condone attacks on the constitution.
People who fought for freedom often live in the glorious past and thus forfeit the future by refusing to interrogate the present. Surely, no consideration for a political party can outweigh a cause!
Should the cause not remain supreme forever? If that is so, how can the rewards of office and the lure of instant wealth allow the demise of a great cause as we are witnessing presently?
Terror Lekota saw very clearly that politics in 2008 was taking a turn for the worse and decamped to help preserve the legacy of the movement he served with such distinction.
He saw the need to walk a separate route to take up the cudgels in defence of the constitution and the advancement of democracy.
Consequently, he has forcefully risen in the National Assembly, to the great discomfiture of members of the ruling party, to defend freedom of speech, attack the Secrecy Bill, question government spending, and demand accountability.
Terror Lekota has undoubtedly been a powerful force for good in our parliament. See him on YouTube and judge for yourself. Fortunately, he has had authentic struggle credentials to speak with moral authority on issues that affect all South Africans and to demand adherence to the Constitution that was signed into law by the iconic Nelson Mandela.
Now, in this election, amongst other things, he is demanding the following –
a substantial reduction in the size of government;
reforms in the electoral law to allow for voters to elect the president directly;
a lowering of the national debt to protect citizens from higher and newer taxes;
introduction of laws to compel disclosures of political party funding to stop shady individuals commandeering government; and
an end to cadre deployment which is paralysing the civil service through lack of capacity and absence of qualifications.
Government this year will borrow R18.70 for very hundred ran that it will spend year and this amount will increase year on year as the debt and servicing costs continue to mount. Under the circumstances, a debt default is highly likely.
The consequences that will arise when government fails to meet loan payments will damage the financial position of most people.
Support COPE so that we can fiercely attack the ruling party’s profligacy and the rampant looting that goes on within the state. Support COPE to save the situation while a small window of opportunity exists.
All other considerations are of secondary importance. The money is running out and this is where we must focus sharply. If we do not act now it is clear that externally enforced austerity measures will result and blight our lives and our living.

The present government has lost its moral authority to govern and furthermore is abusing taxpayers' money to add insult to injury. South African voters must assert themselves now and save the situation by voting wisely.
