The official ANC constitution does not forbid or punish corruption. The term corruption is not listed or defined as a key term in the latest version of the official constitution of the ANC. This omission will inevitably lead to the demise of the ANC.
An organization with millions of members must understand people behaviour and know that inevitably too much power corrupts most people. The organization must make sure that its official policy forbids and penalizes this human weakness. Corruption must be listed, defined and penalised as an act of gross misconduct by the Constitution of the ANC.
The official absence of any specific constraints on corruption could be the root cause of the atrocities that are being committed in the name of the people by ANC members and for the work load of the public protector.
It is inconceivable that at this critical stage in the evolution of our democracy, that the party that selects, grooms and appoints the political leadership of our country does not officially identify, define and prohibit corruption and thus also does not have the inclination and means to penalise members for committing it.
Searching for the word corruption in the latest version (2012) of the official ANC constitution document, terms like bribery, misappropriation and money-laundering are on the list of 103 definitions and terms explained in the constitution, but corruption is not listed nor is it defined.
“Bribery” is listed and defined as any promise or offer to give something, usually money, to procure services or gain influence in an improper manner. “Misappropriation” is listed as using money or funds wrongly or dishonestly, especially for one’s own use and “Money-laundering” is listed as a criminal offence as defined by statute and means the process of concealing the source of money obtained by illicit means.
The closest word to corruption in the constitution is “bribe”, which means “any promise or offer to give something, usually money, to procure services or gain influence in an improper manner”.
In philosophical, theological, or moral discussions, corruption is spiritual or moral impurity or deviation from an ideal. Corruption may include many activities including bribery and embezzlement. The word corrupt when used as an adjective literally means "utterly broken".
Corruption is described as the illegitimate use of public power to benefit a private interest. Another definition of corruption is “action to secretly provide a good or a service to a third party so that he or she can influence certain actions which benefit the corrupt, a third party, or both in which the corrupt agent has authority.
Government, or 'political', corruption occurs when an office-holder or other governmental employee acts in an official capacity for personal gain.
