I write this as comment on the debate, which has solicited so many comments and attacks, the Christian versus Atheism war. I would like to explore the position of indifference to this matter, which has existed since time has begun and will remain for the rest of time.
This battle or war seems to have only the notion of persuading whether the Christian deity exists or not. And this debate has adopted a tone of proving who is wrong and who is right, which also seems to serve as means of recruitment to each side.
The view from the agnostic persuasion is that of an individual outlook to what he/she believes in. Thus each individual has to account for his own belief and such it remains the individual persuasion and should remain this way. The core of the agnostic mind is that of indifference. The notion is that no one is right and no one is wrong. In the ultimate view relating religion is that one can’t prove that a god exists nor can you prove that he/she does not exist. With that regard a null hypothesis is as good as a proven hypothesis. With that in mind a mutual respect towards everyone starts to surface, which holds everyone’s view point, beliefs or persuasion dear.
It seems that this debate relating to the validity of Christendom or the proof of the Atheist has invoked some considerable animosity between these two camps.
Each one pulls out tools to attack the other with proof of their outlook. It has also become an opinion of mine that atheism started to become an antithesis for the Christian belief, which causes the problem that without Christendom, atheism would not exist. I know that is not the premise of atheism, but however it seems to have become that. Atheism holds the notion of no belief in any deity, however it seems to only be imposing its will on the Christian faith and ignoring all other religions that exist. Maybe because Christians mainly dominate our society and thus remain the target of this debate or Christians like this argument and have a point to prove.
There is always the argument that religion has cost the world so much and atrocities are committed in the name of some religion. In the end the individual will motivate his/her own objective with any means possibly. With that any bigotry is motivated either as a belief in some deity or not. The fact is that the individual holds that rationale and will try to engulf as many other people to persuade of the validity of his motivations. Atrocities or any other harm caused is a result of the individual’s outlook. The power lies in what power the individual posses over his/her fellow human beings. Everyone seems to be concerned with the view of the collective and the battle between these collective views or beliefs.
Coming back to the view of indifference, people find some value in their beliefs and we can try to motivate that so much harm has been done by this religion one can also say some good have come out of someone holding onto a belief. Who are we to judge or take that away from the individual, the same with the atheist, they value their outlook and find something valuable from that who are we to take that away from anyone. I believe that someone can’t convince you into believing something; you come to that conclusion yourself. Thus the stance I would like people to take is that of indifference towards each other’s belief. Believe in what you believe and respect other’s beliefs and viewpoint.
