The Art of recovery from failure in 5 steps.
Coping with failure can be and is a difficult situation, initially it might feel like it is the end of the world and you might wonder what other people are going to think about you. Remember one thing that it is your view of yourself that should affect you the most as opposed to the views of other people. Too many times people consider the opinion of other people as opposed to their own. Failure isn’t falling down; it’s not getting up again that makes you a failure. Here is how to cope with failure in 5 achievable steps and not just cope but get good grades while at it.
STEP: 1 Take some time out and relax and get some perspective of what has happened. Failing or doing poorly once does not mean that is a trend that must be accepted. Review your steps in the sense; did you fall behind and never caught up with your work or did you party too much and neglected your school work… Whatever it is, find the source of the problem and work to avoid such an outcome in the future. Your life would be a dull one if you never failed or encountered hardship. It is these tough moments in life that teach us the most.
STEP: 2 talk to a friend or someone you trust and they can help you resolve this matter as emotional support is something people need in times like these. The truth is your parents are people that you should let in on this episode, remember they are wise and they themselves have come across failure in their lifetime. This is where you will get that much needed advice and put them on par with what is going on and what your plan is from there going forward with your studies.
STEP: 3 Review your friendships and people you associate yourself with. Most of the time people are what they are because of the people they chose to be around. Don’t be a victim of this by associating yourself with the wrong group as they can and probably will have a negative effect on you. Surround yourself with friends that actually care about your wellbeing and your studies. Friends with good work ethic. Don’t be a free loader and expect them to do your work or copy of them, show them you are willing to learn and that failure is a used to. The famous saying by Jeremy Schoemaker goes “Show Me Your Friends and I Can Tell Who You Are”.
STEP: 4 Meet with your tutor or lecturer; explain your situation to them and seek solutions to help you recover while it is still early. Ask for additional study material that will help you get on par with whichever course or even put you way ahead of the class. If you are prepared you will avoid failure. Lecturers are not heartless dragons, even if they were the point is get a good working relationships with your lecturers as that will make the class enjoyable and with that achieved you will be able to reach your full potential with the help of your tutors and lecturers. Bill Gates a successful business man and self-made billionaire affirms that lecturers aren’t that bad “If you think your teacher is tough, wait until you get a boss. He doesn't have tenure.” Lecturers are there for your own good don’t make them your enemies.
STEP: 5 Plan, plan, plan and then execute your plans. Your failure is a product of lack of planning. So the saying goes if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. Set up a timetable, a personal one to help you cope with the workload of university, include study times and even set up a period whereby you go consult your lecturers. If you plan successfully and execute all the plans that you set the success will be a friend and failure something you used to know. Execution is not something to worry about later--it must be an underlying theme during strategy formulation. Be passionate about what you do and be hungry for success if you can attain that mentality university will be but a breeze. Remember study now and party later.
Everyone that is around you is not there to harm you or even laugh at you but at the same time not everyone is your friend and wishes you success. Choose your friends wisely and remember the buck stops with you. You are the boss of your success or failure and the wiser thing would be to choose the latter. If you want to avoid failure dictate what goes in your life and don’t let other people play the author in your own story. The Art of recovery in 5 steps is pure hard work and determination and if you have that success will shower you as opposed to being drowned by failure.
