Of recent it has become known that the Hawks have been extremely active in the province in that employees, councilors, and other senior officials have been subject to investigation, where their personal computers, cell phones, and all other related matters being confiscated in line with an investigation that is ongoing at this point in time.
The extent of the investigation is unknown at this point in time, but that it is serious is without doubt.
Corruption, nepotism, factionalism, cronyism, might be the ingredients of the investigation, but all of this will play itself out in good time to come.
The fact that the ruling party appears to be serious in its efforts to root out corruption and or tender irregularities, is good and if this is an indication of things to happen in the future, the ruling party need to be commended for its efforts to put action to words.
But such an investigation should not be aimed at one specific council, but should be extended and to incorporate other councils as well, where maladministration and mismanagement of public funds have been reported ad nausea to the Hawks yet their action has been conspicuously absent in following up and or investigating the matters reported.
Maladministration and mismanagement including dubious tender irregularities within the Tubatse Local Council, has been reported to the Hawks for investigation on a number of instances, yet to date, the follow up of action within the corrupt governance that is prevalent within the ambit of council has been conspicuously absent.
This lack of investigation should be considered as serious and the necessary appropriate action should be taken to conduct the investigation within the ambit of the council, and to take the necessary ameliorated remedial action in correcting the misdemeanours that has become the order of the day, as a matter of urgency and to reinstall good clean and accountable governance within the council that has deteriorated to such a level that corruption has become the norm rather than the exception as a matter of urgency.
