The Law makes an Ass of Itself (time and time again and again and again...........)

I read today of a fugitive couple who having been charged for murdering their child are now on the run after hearing that a second charge of murder was to be added.

Where I come from you were not allowed bail if you were charged with murder, UNLESS the magistrate found COMPELLING CIRCUMSTANCES to do so.

The same applied in the case of Rape.  Here in our village we have a father out on, yes you've guessed it, R5000.00 bail having been charged for the rape of his four year old daughter over the last two years. He is now said to be intimidating witnesses and the person who laid the charge against him, and is threatening to burn down their business.

What is he doing out on bail?!  Our law and order/justice system is just about useless with in some cases the Police not investigating cases properly, Judges siding with the defence instead of being totally objective, prosecutors not knowing how to do their work, so even if the police do a decent investigation, the state prosecutor loses the case resulting in a "not guilty" verdict, and then even if the police and the prosecutor do their jobs properly the magistrate or judge lets the accused out on bail where bail should simply not be granted!

And we wonder why people are taking the law into their own hands!  Unless the state starts to protect its citizens and concerns itself more with the rights of the victim as opposed to the accused, they are opening the gates to anarchy!
