Will the real Satan, please stand up

I was surprised at the interest shown in ‘The Satan project’, and found the comments interesting.

There appear to be three main groups of differing perceptions amongst Christians, about the way Satan interacts with us humans, his modus operandi. 

My project is simple, if I can experience Satan’s influence/presence, then God must exist.

Group 1-  “Don’t do it, it’s easy but nasty”

Pieter Daniel Niemandt warned, along with many others, against continuing with my project and wrote, “I will try to discourage you to go down that road because you're in for one hell of a ride. A horror movie is like going to Sunday school compared to that. Once you're in, it is hard to get out. Yet it is one great way to experience evil like never before. I went down that road and never again. Though you get to know God like you know the Devil…..”

Group 2 –” Satan already has you”.

Toby Strong made an interesting comment reflecting the comments of many Christians, “TA - You will function under the power of Satan and you will not even know it. However you see it in all the evil as seen in mankind. All Christians were like you under the power of Satan before their conversion. Now, I don't care what your fundamentalist friend says. Here is what the Word of God says.”

Toby went on to quote Ephesians 2:1-3 and Acts 26:17-18, which basically say that, in Toby’s worldview, until one is reborn, you are blind, evil and under Satan’s control, I doubt all theologians would agree with Toby’s interpretation of the scriptures referenced.

Toby furthermore stated, “And by the way, Satan is not omnipresent, all powerful and all that rubbish. He is a single fallen angel alongside many others who are demonic spirits. And he has blinded your eyes, but you will only understand that when you come to sight.”

These claims of Toby’s are interesting because they raise a whole host of other problems. Firstly, only about a third of the world identify themselves as Christian and according to one claim that I read, about 8% of Christians have done what is necessary to fulfil the Biblical mandate, to qualify as "born again." This then would leave Satan, a mere single, non-omnipotent or omniscient fallen angel and his sidekicks to influence 7 billion people.

A weekly ‘influencing’ per person for 20 minutes to each non saved human would require tens of millions of angels/demons working 24 hours a day, without rest. Even God himself took rest on the seventh day. This claim seems highly unlikely. How many angels does God have, and only a third of them supposedly followed Satan in his rebellion.

Furthermore Toby’s claim means that even the children of the most devout Christian parents, living good Christian children’s lives are under Satan’s influence and ‘blind’ as Toby’s bible quotes tell us- until undergoing their born-again experience. And yet we have Christ himself making references to "as little children" and using them as an example of the “good”, open and receptive person to his teachings.

I find Toby’s claims absurd. There are many people who could be classified as ‘spiritually blind’ and they lead exemplary lives, and yet we often hear of ‘the falls’ and sins of faithful and spiritually enlightened Christians. Besides, what is it exactly that a born again Christian can do, that Catholics, Jews, atheists and agnostics are incapable of?

Group 3-“it’s hard to come under Satan’s influence” .

Just another Numty wrote,” I contend that you do not have the balls to see this experiment through. In order for you to do so, would require you to cross some moral lines that no sane, rational person will be willing to cross.”

Just another Numty claims that I have to be insane, irrational and immoral to experience Satan. I do hope that Numty’s claim is not true as I do not believe I am any of these things, and will therefore be of no interest to the prince of darkness.

Reflect 014 wrote, “The premise of this 'project' is abysmal……”and further claimed that it is not easy to come under Satan’s influence.

As to how Reflect014 knows about the difficulties involved in coming under Satan’s influence, she does not say, and as for the premise of my project being abysmal, well it seems that we only come to know of this Satan through God and His word, no other place. If God exists, so does Satan. If Satan exists so does God.

It is quite apparent that the characteristics of the various Satan’s proposed by Christians contradict each other, a Satan that gives one hell of a ride you do not want but is easy to attract to oneself; another Satan you don’t even know is there; And a hard to find Satan that requires you to be evil before he will make himself known; obviously, there is something wrong as these perceptions of Satan contradict each other. I am left with the following:

1)    1)  Only ONE of these differing versions of Satan can reflect the One True  Satan, and the others are false satans,  keeping us from the truth;

2)    2)  OR,  all of these claimed Satan’s are incorrect ;

3)    3)  OR, we have widespread confusion and/or deceit and lies amongst our Christian commentators.

Who is the father of confusion, lies and deceit?
