The full might of the law

Isn’t it odd that, when a prominent member of the ruling party becomes the victim of an armed robbery, suddenly it is a dire emergency, the ‘full might of the law’ (pardon me if I snigger a little) must be brought to bear to find these ‘savage thugs’…… and so on and so forth.

I wonder how the grieving and traumatized relatives of the victims of farm attacks, farm murders, random hi-jackings, countless rapes and murders, smash and grabs, violent house robberies, and all the other victims of other  such ‘savage thugs’ feel, given the very public response to this one single act of criminality.

It couldn’t possibly be that the focus is more intense in this one incident because Jackson Mthembu is an important ANC MP? Could it? Surely every crime is horrific and the perpetrators faced with the same ‘full might of the law’ to bring them to justice?

Sigh ! Clearly not – and if any further evidence was required that some are more equal than others, then this is it. To all who have lost loved ones or had their lives destroyed, whether your name is John, Jill, Mohammed, André,  Rajesh, Sipho, Eugene, Steve, Nomvula, Angela, Charmaine…… my deepest sympathies. Maybe, just maybe, these ‘savage thugs’ will now be brought to justice … (no I’m not laughing sarcastically, really….) for having dared to attack such a prominent person.

Again, still, my heart breaks for my country.
