I know I said I wouldn't be writing because I am too busy but once a writer of pseudo important stuff always a writer of pseudo important stuff. For those of you that didn't understand, I am a bad man that has a need to write so I read a lot, sadly the stuff I have been reading lately is so bad that I felt the need to say something almost intelligent, so here goes "something almost intelligent."that was fun wasn't it. "something almost intelligent" OK enough of me trying to be funny and failing.
The atheism is a religion card has been played so it's time for my lecture on that old fashioned atheist religion. I typed what is a religion into Google and was pointed at this information, Google defines religion as follows.
Religion
the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
"ideas about the relationship between science and religion"
a particular system of faith and worship.
Atheists do not believe in superhuman controlling powers, have no gods, and that malarkey about the relationship between science and religion just makes no sense unless you are Tom Cruise.
I asked Google what an atheist is, She said an atheist is a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods.That's it, nothing more just a disbelief in Gods, so on point 1 of What a religion is, no cigar, no religion, Atheism is a non religion, it's as much a religion as off is a TV channel on your TV.
Point 2 a particular system of faith AND worship. As an atheist I worship two things, my wife and my children, but there is no system of faith attached. I know they are human and are going to make a mistake sometimes, I know I will get angry and will forgive them because I love them. I won't send my son to a bad place forever because he doesn't do things my way.
So from the dictionary we can see that atheism is not a religion.
Let's explore the relationship between religion and science. Religion tries to retard the exploration of our world, denying science with evidence in exchange for the writings of stone age goat herders.
Denying what is factual doesn't seem to be much of a relationship to me. Just before anyone accuses me of being untruthful, lets look at areas in which religion actively works to prevent scientific endeavour. Stem cell research comes to mind without any real thought or investigation. That's enough for me.
The other thing I have to bring to your attention, I seem to say this more often than I should. Science is not atheism. I will say it again Science is not atheism. Science doesn't give a hoot about the supernatural, It is not trying to disprove God, there is no branch of science dedicated to finding or disproving god. Science however by making sense of the world is making the areas in which the god of the gaps hides smaller. It is not the aim of science to disprove gods, but to explain the world around us. When the weather patterns were explained goddidit was no longer a reasonable explanation for thunder and lightening. Thor became obsolete.
There has not been one scientific discovery that could be better explained by goddidit, not one.
Another thing atheism is not science. I repeatatheism is not science. Trying to disprove abiogenesis does not change the fact that there is no evidence for any deities. Trying to disprove evolution does not change the fact thet there is no evidence for gods, but here is the thing, evolution and abiogenesis are scientific pursuits not atheist pursuits.
Atheists become atheist for many reasons, some because they read the local flavour of the holy books and came to the conclusion that the incredible hulk may have more of a grounding in reality than Ganesha, Jesus and Amun Ra.
Some atheists, me included spent a long time studying your favourite book of goatherd wisdom, they read it all, not just the really cool parts like Samson and Delilah, the description of the demons praising god in Revelations, We also read the part where God got beaten by people in iron chariots and the final battle being on horseback with spears and swords, you see the authors of that book didn't know someone was going to invent nukes and gun powder. If God couldn't beat an army with iron chariots what will he do against an Air force and long range cannons.
But most importantly we read the part where Jesus said, those in front of him will not taste death before he comes back, that when the get heckled in a town they should pick up sticks because they would not be finished preaching to all the towns in Israel before he would return. Jesus lied and we know that death is the punishment for false prophets, it says so in Exodus.
I am proudly part of that old fashioned non religion. I am actually wont to teach others about the evils of religion, you could refer to me as religiously anti religion, you could call me an evangelic atheist, yet I still don't worship any gods, beasts, demons or even kitty cats. I don't have religion.
I hope you understood this, if you didn't please visit your pastor and ask him to explain wh Jesus lied, why heaven sounds so dreary and why God couldn't beat iron chariots.
