Truth be told, South Africa is a country with palpable inequalities, which is a fact, it is a country where poverty continues to lacerate a huge number of our population particularly black people. Ours is indeed a country where corruption exist, but such corruption does not only exist in the public sector, it even more rampant in the private sector, such is an ill that ought to be remedied and remedied effectively
The inequality gap between the rich, mainly white compatriots and the poor, particularly black South Africans, does indeed remain one of the highest inequality gap in the world, but I cannot agree with the assertion and contention of the Democratic Alliance, that the inequality gap is getting worse because that amounts to half-truths.
It is a fact which cannot be disputed, that the “unacceptably high” inequality gap between the rich people of our country and the poor, a gap that continues to exist and affect the “previously disadvantaged individuals”, black people, is as a result of our unfortunate and disheartening past.
Of course we are aware that apartheid denialism is beginning to find space in certain sections of our society, and apartheid supporters have become not only brave to deny that the existence of the past apartheid system caused these tremendous ills that continue to lacerate our society, but some have gone a bit too far, far to such an extent that they have even claimed that the existence of apartheid was good for south Africa, and that life in south Africa was better under apartheid that it is in the current dispensation.
It is even more worrisome when people who deny the evilness of apartheid, and offer praise phrases and supportive slogans to this system do not only include those who immensely benefited from the evil system which was engineered to ensure the oppression of black people, but now also include some black people who are now swimming in wealth and drive the gravy train, people who have appropriated to themselves tremendous apartheid struggle credentials, in order to try and legitimise all their ill-founded and misleading claims the current democratic and democratically elected and legitimate government is worse off than the apartheid, illegal regime, these people include the Mamphela Ramphele”s .
The ANC led alliance Government ought to be given credit for the progress that it has consistently made over the past two decades that it has governed the republic, in terms of the provision of some of the most basic services that are very essential into ensuring that south africans are able to lead healthy lives on a daily basis, such essential basic services include the provision of clean drinkable and healthy, and the provision of proper sanitation for the vast majority of our people, who were denied such.
Truth should be told! The work of the ANC government has not been limited to the provision of the aforementioned basic services alone, but the economy has been grown and there are much more people who have sustainable proper employment today then there were before the democratic government took over, we have a black middle class growing each and every day, more and more people are given space and opportunities to create for themselves a better life. While some are in the process of creating for themselves better lives as opportunities are abundant, the state continues to provide for them.
Truth should be told, South Africa is indeed in a much better position that it was before 1994 notwithstanding some challenges of course, there is indeed a good story to be told in South Africa
