Thuli asks: “What is exactly the concern of the ANC and for that matter the portfolio committee?”

The Public Protector and the EFF have turned to the Speaker of Parliament to have some guidance and clarification on how some of the ANC-MP’s are threatening the Public Protector.

Advocate Thuli Madonsela, the Public Protector, and the EFF have asked Baleke Mbethe, Speaker, to investigate the conduct of the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Justice and other conduct of other ANC-MP’s conduct against her in the matter.

Madonsela asked Mbete in a letter to seriously and urgently have a meeting with the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee, none other than Mr. Motshekga, to establish exactly what his problem is with her. ANC-MP’s also on Wednesday meeting accused her that she ‘is conducting herself and the Institutional Body, The Public Protector, just like the conduct of the DA, in which she exploits the legal fraternity, and waste public and taxpayers money and also wasting parliaments time!”

Motshekga on Wednesday at the meeting of the Portfolio Committee on Justice on a number of occasions interrupted her, her submission about the office of the Public Protectors Strategic Plan and asking for an additional R 200 million to run her office efficiently and effectively until 2020 and him rejecting it as a ‘trivial matter’ saying that she was wasting the committees time.

He on Thursday continued his tirade against Madonsela and in an interview with Network24 accused her of being: ‘ power hungry’ and conducts her office and herself  ‘ inappropriately by attacking anyone and that is un parliamentary’, especially so the chairperson himself, Mr. Motshekga.

According to him Motshekga did absolutely nothing about the acquisations that were made and that she is working with the DA against the ANC-MP’s, to prevent it and him then asking her to apologize for the criticism about the judges ruling in the matter.

She according to him also neglected to consult with her deputy at the Public Protectors office and Motshekga then carried on in saying: ‘the conduct of most of the committee members of the Public Protectors office was indeed childish and raises major concerns.’

According to the Spokesperson of the EFF this is a major transgression of conduct of parliamentary rules and practices in the way that the Chairperson of the Portfolio committee conducted the meeting and attacking Madonsela in her personal capacity, especially so that her office has a constitutional mandate for its work to eradicate corruption and has the support and confidence of the majority of South African people.

According to Oupa Segalwe, Madonsela’s spokesperson, she also wrote a letters to Mbete on Thursday to voice her concerns about the conduct of the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee and his personal attacks on her.

She carried on saying: ‘We respect the parliament and understand our duty to be accountable to parliament, for which we have no problem to be accountable! the her letter.

“We always attend invitations to parliament and provide it with information that the committee request. We do our best to appear at each and every committee sitting that is relevant to the Public Protectors office, and provides it with answers when required.’

Her spokesperson Oupa Segalwe, expressed his hope that the Speaker would address and resolve this anomaly expeditiously and amicably, and call the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee to order.
