To the Lost Generation

If you are reading this you are either part of the now dubbed "Lost Generation" or you are going to be; and its just that you haven't realised that. Apparently we are without direction and lack the desire to achieve success. I know right incredibly insulting considering the pressures we endure and the ever increasing expectations (to graduate, get a job, contribute to the economy).

We are faced with a huge mountain of job uncertainty, inability to ...cope with ever increasing standards of living and all this at the face of a withering economy. We have been thrown in a now democratic South Africa with unrealistic expectations of economic growth, and the undying shadow of Apartheid.

We are expected to embrace a new South Africa, 'The Rainbow Nation' (which is so well marketed to foreign investors as opposed to the people that work this land) and at the same time we have to be loyalists to the people that liberated us. An observation of the contradictory status quo of our position is realized at institutions of higher learning. On a social front students are more than wiling to socialize with other racial groups and its an encouraging factor, at the same time economic realities counter this openness to the cultural other, in effect as much as progress has been made lack of reform on economic policies have made 'The Rainbow Nation' (a South African equivalent to The American Dream) an unattainable nightmare.

Despite all these looming problems i have faith in this generation. No people are perfect and as such we will continue having problems but that doesn't mean we do not have plans for the now and the future. Perhaps it will take The Lost Ones to steer everyone home. South Africa is become hostile and so is the rest of the world, this a result of relying on an economy to help a people. People can help people and if we recognize that in due time ,we might be responsible for the restoration of human dignity and that alone is enough of a legacy to leave behind.

Let us be the generation that restores belief in humanity ( end wars without blood being shed, being able to have without another losing, heal the world and show one another that we can only be if we are).

While the pressures of life hit you hard keep on fighting and we will make it through, where I fail you will succeed and so applies when the roles are reversed. As a member of this generation Im a willing leader and a believer , and while they think we are in limbo , we will mobilize and start a revolution that will change the world.

Every generation has the habit of undermining the new, so it goes. We just started and they are already concluding, No matter the Cost we are not Lost.

We live in a world where facts and fiction get blurred
