A much needed debate on the transformation/quota system is long overdue. This forced entailment to SA sport has ignored the fact that some sports are more mandatory to the system than others.
Recent reports suggest interference of sorts to choose an out of form player of color for the semi-final clash between the Proteas and the Black Caps during the ICC World cup earlier this year.
While SARU has made no secret of the quota system over the years, it is felt that they blatantly ignore the IRB rules as they go. Bye-Law 3: Objectives and functions of the Board
3(f) To prevent discrimination of any kind against a country, private person or groups of people on account of ethnic origin, gender, language, religion, politics or any other reason. By selecting a player because of his/her race is in actual fact discrimination.
The main question still stand, when will this “transformation System” be enforced to the PSL. South African Super Rugby franchises have 40+ players of color in the competition. While the PSL can hardly make up ten white folk between the sixteen teams competing.
The next section of the debate should include the unethical ethnic grouping taking place. Coloured sportsmen being seen as African in the rugby world and white in the soccer set up. By doing this the governing body in charge is controlling the culture of this minority group.
The fact of the matter is this is not transformation it is transgression.
