What happened to the word "service" in South Africa?

I am at the end of my tether! Is there one proper internet service provider in South Africa?

I signed up with AFRIHOST because there marketing claim they are the number one ISP in the country! God help us if that is the case!

We started off all good and well, but then things started falling apart dramatically. From about December 2014 we have noticed that we have an intermittent service. That progressed rapidly into oblivion, to the point where we eventually have absolutely no service at all. This can be from a few minutes, up to hours at a time. Currently, if we have any form of connectivity and data through-put at all, we regard ourselves as being very, very lucky. On the advice of this call-centre, I have replaced all of our hardware, because I was told my stuff is faulty, yet every-time I call, someone is trying to blame my router again, and again!

Trying to call these people is a total waste of time. Firstly, it will take them on average 15 to 20 minutes before they answer their phones. When you inevitably speak to someone, it is a person who is untrained and unequipped to speak to anyone of the public. They will pick and search for anything to say, obviously not having the technical knowledge, or possibly the permission to be honest with the public. Requesting to speak to a manager, or anyone in any form of authority, is hopeless. Nobody is ever available. It is rather obvious that Afrihost as a company has a policy in place to never ever communicate with any of their clients from any senior management level! All responsibility is loaded on the shoulders of their semi-trained call centre staff. I have been cut off, put on hold for up to 20 minutes and then cut off, and being ignored, but definitely not being helped by this, the worst call centre in the history of call centres. I will never again complain about the Joburg council's call centre!

Coming back to my “so-called” internet service, well, we still do not have a service! It is unstable and intermittent when connected, but mostly we are simply in the dark, no service at all! Today, 26 February 2015, I have already made 6 calls to Afrihost before 09h30, spending about R150 on phone-calls in one day, and guess what, we do not have an internet service. Thanks Afrihost, a paragon of self-styled brilliance in your hopeless incompetence!

Afrihost is blatantly lying to the public, claiming to be the country's best ISP, in fact according to my experience, they could possibly the by far the worst!
