What is Love (Christians don't hurt me, no more) ?

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” - John 13:34-35 (NIV)

Christians it would seem, according to their God’s commands, are to be the epitome of love, kindness, compassion.

Followers of Christ are to set the gold standard for loving the unlovable. They are to follow the way of their God and be compassionate, kind, humble, and tolerant. They are not to retaliate, but do to do good to those who harm them. (I won’t bulk this up by referencing the actual scriptures, as I am sure all the Christians know them as well as their own name due to reading their bible.)

Jesus their Lord, (and by extension his humble servants) embraced and spent time the worst sinners according the Bible. Ate, and drank with them. Didn’t avoid them or distanced himself from them lest their sin rub off on him.

He never hung out with the Pharisees though. He loathed the Pharisees, those who put the law above the intent of the law (rules above compassion and love). Those who were hypocrites, those who only did for their own people, and saw everyone else as beneath them and not deserving of their compassion, kindness or generosity.

So Jesus comes, and turns Judaism on its head and now his followers, those that are saved, are to be humble, compassionate and loving just like he was.

Their God even explains what love should look like in 1 Corinthians 13.

So naturally given this God’s call for his followers to follow his ways, I am sure Christians will be the epitome of love, tolerance, compassion and kindness.

They will hate the sin but love the sinner. Surely they would never, oh, I don’t know, pick and choose which sins are more abhorrent to God. Yes Christians are bursting full of love. (Otherwise let’s face it, the Bible says they would be a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.)

They are to love their neighbor. Now, it’s been a while since I read my bible but none of the versions quantified that with unless they are L.G.B.T, or another race, or another faith. Nope, just love them, as they love themselves. (Hmmmm... One wonders if Christians are self-loathing. Considering that this is a command from their God, and given how they treat the LGBT community and other races, they must not be very fond of themselves. Maybe they need a bit of Deepak Chopra or Oprah.)

Surely no Christian would be unkind, intolerant, mean, and abusive to a ‘Sinner’. Surely they wouldn't make them feel less than human, taunt them and call them un-natural or evil. Surely they would never make their lives so hard that many become depressed and so many suicidal.

Nope not a Christian. Their God tells them to love.

I wonder then what to make of people who, for example, refuse a room to a gay couple but have no problem renting to an adulterous couple.

Or those who refuse to bake a wedding cake for a LGBT couple but have no problem making one for a couple on their 2nd or 3 rd marriage. (Those bits in Matthew and Mark about divorce are less sinful than homosexual sex, OBVIOUSLY.)

I am sure Christians oppose liars and the cowardly - both sins in Rev 21:8 - and would also picket outside their homes. Stare at them when they are out with their families. Refuse to be treated by a liar in a hospital. (Lest his lies get on them, like cooties.)

I am sure Christian parents refuse to eat a meal with their kids who told a lie and have chucked them out of their homes.

Well, they’re to make sure they’re against sin right? I am sure they would be the first out their protesting against corrective rape. (Of course they would never be cowardly and say it’s wrong, but take no action.)

I am sure they are organizing political parties to ensure Liars are stripped of all their rights. That no person who told a lie is ever allowed to adopt a child.

Yeah you can really see Christians by their love. That’s how Jesus will know them when he stops pressing snooze on his alarm and comes back for them. He will see how compassionate they were to the LGBT community, how loving and inclusive they were to other races and how generous they were to the poor. They would never be like those people he threw out of the temple. No buying a t-shirt telling people how much you love Christ instead of donating that money to the poor. No sitting in church on a Sunday listening the 40th sermon about feeding the poor, then going out for brunch when they could be out helping the poor, visiting kids in prison, helping at an orphanage.

Nope Jesus will be so pleased when he returns, right Christians?
