This question came after reading an article by Thato Hoppkins, titled “My disillusion with the ‘new atheists’”. Reading through it, I was hoping that maybe, maybe he was going to shed some light to me what this “atheism religion” is (I know some of you don’t think of it as a religion, but according to me and what I have read, it is a religion – I (Christian) believe in the existence of a higher Being (God) and in the bible. On the other hand, if I get it right, you (Atheists) don’t believe in God, you don’t believe in the bible. But I can bet you, you believe in someone’s ‘logic’ of the creation of the earth and the life in it. So we are all believers at the end of the day, since religion has to do about believing in something, a God, gods or no-god). Anyway I am not about that in this article.
What is atheism? Really what is it? I will be lying if I said I know what it is, except the definition the dictionary gives me: Disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods. I know this is a blanket statement but I even doubt if any of the so called “atheists” here on News24 can tell me what it is, besides them telling me that there’s no God, the Bible is a fairytale and attacking everything or every person who dares to write anything about God and religion.
What is atheism? I hope you will give me a straight forward answer for this straight forward question, instead trying to be smart, utilizing big words that no one understands except you and the few individuals in your sect or insulting me or saying something derogatory about Christianity and the Bible.
If you don’t know, you don’t know and I respect that. If it will make you feel better, you are not alone, there are many people out there who are following or believing something they don’t know or understand, but they stick with it just because it makes them look and feel “cool” and “intelligent”. Not knowing that even a fool looks wise if he’s quiet. Therefore don’t try to hide your ignorance or foolishness by writing long senseless replies or ‘ drivel’ (that’s the word I got from some of you (Atheists) about my articles).
Lastly, I think, maybe, maybe there’s more to atheism than reading some book by a popular atheist to get some “weaponry to wage a war against ignorance” as Thato put it on his article or “wage a battle…” with those who believe in the existence of God or gods and whom you have labelled ‘ignorant’ or ‘less intelligent’. Is that what atheism about, collecting weaponries and waging wars? If not, then what is the purpose of atheism? Since Christianity is about sharing and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God who came to the world to die for our sins.
