Why the fuss on Sabbath

Why the fuss on Sabbath

Why the ‘fuss’ about the Sabbath?

After all, it doesn’t matter which day you worship, as long as you worship God you fine. But are you really fine?

We need to understand the real reason for the Sabbath because it will explain both the history and the future of earth & its inhabitants.

You see, part of Satan’s deceitful strategy to destroy man’s trust in God involves attacking God’s claim as the sole Creator. The likes of the theory of evolution, atheism, are all part of this deceptive effort the devil is making. Darwin’s theory, with its baseless amoral humanistic emphasis, has led the way in turning millions (perhaps billions) to being religious sceptics, thus enshrouding the light of their need for God into total darkness.

1.      When did God establish the seventh day?

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. Genesis 2 vs 2,3

Clearly we can see that from creation, the Sabbath was determined. It does not originate from the commandments given to Moses, as some have been made to believe. God was actually ‘re-instilling’ the Sabbath into the Israelites, when he gave the law to Moses, because they had been in Egyptian bondage so long they had lost the meaning thereof.

2.      How does God feel about the seventh day?

"The Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it." Exodus 20:11.

"And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it." Genesis 2:3.

3.      Why did God say remember?

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day [is] the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates: For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is,] and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 20 vs 8-11

God had just created the world in six days, so the seventh day became a memorial to that creation, a reason to remember that mighty act. As your birthday cannot change, being a memorial of your birth, which happened on a set day, likewise the Sabbath memorial cannot be changed because it points backward to an accomplished fact.

4.      Why is the Sabbath important?

And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, “Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters”.

And there followed another angel, saying, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication”.

And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive [his] mark in his forehead, or in his hand. The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name”…Revelation 14 vs 6 - 11

It’s important to take note of the following:

1.      Angel literally translates to ‘messenger’

2.      The first messenger is effectively announcing that judgement “is come” meaning it has begun.

The messenger also announces to “worship” the Creator.

3.      The third messenger also mentions worship, infact worship is mentioned twice

This kind of worship, however, results in the torment with fire…

Clearly then, we can already see that in the time of judgement the issue of worship will be very important and 2 types of worship will be pronounced, worship of the Creator and worship of the beast & its image.

5.      How do we distinguish between the worship of God and the worship of the beast’?

Worship of God - God gave us His Sabbath as a glorious sign of His power to create and His power to sanctify. The Sabbath therefore represents His holy power to rule as Creator and Saviour.

Worship of beast - Since worship for God is the Sabbath, can we assume that worship for the beast is not the Sabbath, thus any other type of worship?

You see, part of Satan’s strategy in denying God’s sovereignty over the earth involves an attack on the Sabbath thus attacking the very basis and proof for creation. Once you knowingly denounce the Sabbath, you also knowingly denounce God as the divine Creator and thus fall into that trap set ages ago to twist and destroy the truth about God being creator, because the Sabbath is that truth.

Through satan’s deceptive information, satan’s attack on the ‘memory’ of creation, man’s trust in feelings, man’s unfounded ‘knowledge’ and man’s unquestioned traditions all relied upon over the sure word of God, millions of Christians have been led to discount or even reject creation.

An attack on the memory of creation (Sabbath) is an attack on creation itself, thereby becoming an attack on God. How then can God be worshipped knowingly under attack?

By the same token, we can also deduce that worship of the beast would simply be the opposite (or attack) of worship to God. So knowingly opposing (attacking) God’s instructed true worship inevitably means worshipping the beast.

Notice I said ‘knowingly’ because once you know the truth, and you chose not to follow it you are then immediately in disobedience, thus in a form of attack on the truth.

King Saul lost his kingship because he disobeyed God’s word. He was instructed to destroy everything on attacking the Amalekites but he saved the king and the fattest of cows. When Samuel asked him about this, he said he wanted to sacrifice the cows to God, yet God had made it clear that nothing was to be saved.

You see, Saul thought he was being good by knowingly disobeying God on the basis that out of his disobedience he would still bring glory to God. But God clearly values obedience to his truth more than sacrificing (worshipping

Samuel said, “Hath the LORD [as great] delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey [is] better than sacrifice, [and] to hearken than the fat of rams. 2 Samuel 15 vs 22

Saul was immediately stripped of his kingship and God gave it to David.
