Will Christianity also become as offensive as racism?

Will Christianity also become as offensive as racism?

The United Nations defines racism as “any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, skin colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin”. So treating people different because they are from a different tribe or ethnic group is racist.

We could ask the same about Judaism and Islam; are they as equally offensive and oppressive as racism, but considering that, the majority of believers on earth are Christians we shall discuss Christianity.

People who live in South Africa know about racism and how offensive and unacceptable it is. Racism hurts people, it causes division and segregation. It creates an, us and them mentality. It says one ethnic group is superior to another.

Does Christianity promote and achieve the same dubious results? Does Christianity; hurt people, does it cause division and segregation, an, us and them mentality, does its adherents view themselves as superior, privileged or somehow special?  Has Christianity also played a part in; racism, bigotry, elitism?

In the old South Africa most Christian Churches were segregated and I used to get an almost devilish thrill when I would remind other Christians that in heaven there would be non-white people as well. So if they could not get along with them now, how could they do it for an eternity?

During apartheid Christians (Dutch reform Calvinism) thought that they were the chosen race. This gave them a God given authority to think that they were superior to others.  Well even if they were superior you would think that they would have a good human rights record, but they didn’t.

Even Jesus Christ thought he was from the chosen race. We know this because in  Matt 15:21… we read:  The woman (Canaanite) came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.”

Jesus like all good Jews do today thought that non - Jews (Gentiles, Goyhim) were dogs - because as the chosen race only they had the ear and council of God.

Therefore they were superior to all others who did not have God on their side.

Chris O’Doud an Irish actor made a telling comment the other day. He said religion will eventually become as offensive and unacceptable as racism. So we will see. But this we do know, religion is causing a lot of suffering at the moment. Just imagine if there was no religious ideology that caused offence and oppression and displacement - what peace we would have on earth.

A good read, Thomas, thank you. Imagine if all Christians actually tried to follow the teachings of Jesus - to love one another.... That alone would make the world a better place.

You have no idea of what a Christian is.

Thomas If it wasn't for religion atheism would not exist. "Does Christianity; hurt people, does it cause division and segregation, an, us and them mentality, does its adherents view themselves as superior, privileged or somehow special?" This sounds like the atheists on this forum.

Food for thought indeed.

Yes, take religion away and then? But robbery is not a religion. Yet no one will be at peace if something is stolen from his house. Rape is not a religion, yet if somebody will rape you, will you be at peace? Tell me....

Thomas, why do you only quote the “bad verses”:” 'True, sir,' she answered; 'and yet the dogs eat the scraps that fall from their masters' table.' 28 Hearing this Jesus replied, 'Woman, what faith you have! Be it as you wish!' And from that moment her daughter was restored to health” You see you are only looking for problems and not the solutions. According to the word of God the dogs are the people out of covenant (Revelation). Please study something before you make your normal useless remarks… One valid point that you make is that Christians are going to be put under the spotlight worldwide and one of these days we will be prosecuted for proclaiming Jesus…

"After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb" There is nothing racist about God. We are called to become like Him - Revelation 7:9 (please stop flaunting your ignorance, author)

What response did you want? A response that atheists are also bad? Surely even you can't be infantile. Why do you only quote half the passage of Matthew 15:21? THAT, SIR IS AN INTENTIONAL DISTORTION OF THE TRUTH because if you quoted the full verse the opposite of what you wanted to say becomes true. The parable of the Good Samaritan also disprove the alleged racism of Jesus. Neither Jews or Christians claim to be without fault or sin. It is sad that religion can be abused by politicians. But Google the Society of the godless to see that even atheists abused their belief system for political gain in Soviet Russia. They had about 3.5 million members from 100 nationalities. Also Google the Leage of Militant atheists. Some people view the Chinese who are the largest nation comprising other religions and and atheists as a bigger threat to the world because they are looking for Lebensraum like Hitler. I think you were looking for attention with this post. Chris O'Dowd inspired this drivel? You must be joking.

This article is tantamount to incitement of hatred and violence. The author creates an "us versus them" environment when posting fallacious and callous articles like this. Why does he not rather respect my right to be a foolish Christian? Why does he feel the need to paint me as a warmongerer, ready at the drop of a hat to stone someone to death or worse?, all because he bases his views on pretext instead of context? If the writer had any idea of what true Christianity really is, he wouldnt post such drivel. Instead, he'd rather rid the world of Christianity, i.e. kill all Christians (sounds very Islamic to me, by the way) so that there can be "peace"
