An open letter to Mmusi Maimane

Dearest Mmusi,
When you became the leader of the DA, I was skeptical. It had nothing to do with the DA being led by a black man, this I knew was important as the DA has been labeled a "white" party for far too long. I was skeptical because I didn't know if you were the man to change this. But, I said let the man have a go at it.

Now, I know that you can change this image. The ANC has been calling itself a non-racial party in the one breath and then in the next breath accusing all white people of causing all the ills in society...including their own corruption...for far too long. But, on the day of the mass protests against Jacob Zuma, I was left with chills after your speech...I felt your dream for my beloved country resound within my soul. You made me a believer.

Unfortunately, I don't think that this is enough to save our nation. We are at the brink of another 10 years of Zuma misrule thanks to his ex-wife. We will have another Zuma presidency, corruption will remain the norm and white people will remain the scapegoat. You will still be called a pawn of the white man and our beloved country will continue down the drain.

It is time to accept the truth...you should not be the presidential nominee for the DA come the next elections. I will explain why and what role I think you should take.

1. We need a president with extremely high administrative skills. This person needs to be able to manage their people in such a way that everything runs as smoothly as possible. I have no idea what your administrative skill set is like, but I don't think it is high enough to manage the entire office of the presidency to work in line with their goals...but in this I could be wrong and I freely admit this.

2. We need a president who has shown beyond a reasonable doubt that corruption is not tolerated...at all. You have taken a hard line on corruption in the past. No one can doubt that you are vocal against it. Unfortunately, you are not in a position to have garnered enough show of force against corruption. Add to that the lie that many believe that you are a puppet of the white man...you remain unqualified in the eyes of many of the ANC supporters...and unfortunately, these are the people that needs to vote for the DA in order to save South Africa.

3. The future president must be respected by ALL. The correct candidate for the DA must be someone who every person, from every walk of life, no matter colour or creed, if not loves, at least respects. Our country needs some serious changes and only a leader who has such massive support from everyone can bring about these changes so that we can build a better nation for all. Unfortunately many do not love or respect you because of the various slander campaigns against you. This is very sad, but unfortunately also very true.

So who do I feel is this person? The person I have in mind is on the minds of almost every person in the nation, even if just in the back of their mind. I have heard so many South Africans state that they would love for this person to become our president. I am sure even you have thought the same...it is Thuli Madonsela.

Her incredible reputation for honesty, integrity, noble nature, honour, loyalty to the people no matter who they are, is respected and loved by an entire nation. I believe no matter what colour, what party, what religion you may call your own, Thuli is someone you respect, love and appreciate for her tireless work n behalf of the public. I know I do.

However, Thuli is an ANC member and I am not sure she would leave the folds of the party to join the DA. She may try to remain within the party to try to mitigate the damage being done by the corrupt top elite. So how do you bring Thuli into the folds as the DA president?

Well you don't. South Africa needs a leader that transcends the divisions of party politics. We need a president that is not dictated to by party politics, but rather by their service to the people of South Africa. All parties must feel like this is their president, their president to support, to hold to account, to consult, to criticize...it must be the PEOPLE's president, not a party's president. We need a president that will unify this nation, even on a political front. So let her run independently on the DA ticket while maintaining whatever party affiliation she chooses.

This will mean that you will remain the leader of the DA...and hopefully become the Vice President. You will bring your passion for this nation to the presidency (which is SORELY needed) and show the people of South Africa your true colours...of a man who will tirelessly work for all our people's needs, a man who will fight to uphold the constitution so that when your time comes as the leader of our nation, not only you will be ready, but the nation as well.
