Are you a corrupter or a corruptee?

(It is a Well-known secret in RSA) We are all corrupt.

An open secret is a concept or idea that is "officially" secret or restricted in knowledge or practice but is actually widely known or practiced; or it refers to something that is widely known to be true but which none of the people most intimately concerned is willing to categorically acknowledge in public. We are all paying bribes, bribes to our friends to accept us or bribes to cops to let us off when we are in trouble with the law. People do not want to accept this, but we are all (corrupter and the corruptee) corrupt.

One of the well-known open secrets in South Africa is that people are paying bribes to get driving license or driving without license. Many of our people, desperate to acquire drivers’ licenses, have for many years, found themselves being corrupted by traffic officials at driving schools.  It has become a norm to bribe a traffic officer to such a point where those who do not want to pay these bribes feels like they are breaking the law. Everyone knows that traffic officers are being bribed on the road everyday by motorist. It feels normal in South Africa to bribe your way to succeed.

Bribery is when we (me & you) are offering or accepting something valuable to gain undue influence or advantage over something. How many times have you bribed? Yes many times. You can’t even count because you have done it for too many times. Forget about Nkandla or Arms Deal, you are also a corrupter or a corruptee. You are corrupt.
