An Opinion
Given the chaos surrounding tertiary education in dear Ol'e SA, maybe it is time for adults to be adults and children to be treated like children. But I guess that modern parents are all about having sympathy for the devil and goodness be damned.., as long as the cause is honorable, all is good!?
All one hears from the rampaging students is how badly the police are treating them?
But all one sees is how destructive they are being when they perceive that they are not being heard.
So in among the maelstrom of news data and social media postings, who is doing what to whom? Who is being petulant and who is being aggressive? As for the claimed brutality, has it not become an issue that no matter what the police do, that it is damned if they act and damned if they don't act?
Surely there is culpability on both sides of the fence: Surely the 'students' know who the criminal faction is that has infiltrated their ranks? Can't they lay anonymous charges against said faction,or has it all become too easy to just lay the blame at the door of the SAPS?
Knowledge of life should have taught the mass of displeased students that taunt a human long enough and they will lose their rag!
This is where adults should be stepping into the picture and giving their 'children' a good by-the-scruff-of-the-neck shake. Yes, #feesmustfall but not at the expense of violence, property destruction and young angst. It is not what democracy is about.
The whole irritation is all about the 'I want' and not about finding a solution. Even the 'corruption' argument does not hold water for the problem would still exist had corruption not been there.
Yes, education is a right but it comes with responsibilities and liabilities. The interesting other side to the coin is that although students proclaim socialism, once they enter the work place, they become the worst form of capitalism around!
Maybe the time if ripe for the masses of adults to rise up and to put the children into place and let's see if they like a taste of their own medicine!?
