Giving girl's their dignity back

PROJECT DIGNITY
A UNICEF report found that a tenth of African school-going girls were missing 25% of their education, or dropping out, because of a lack of menstrual sanitation products. To reduce school absenteeism and improve educational benefits of these young girls, KwaZulu-Natal resident, Sue Barnes, developed Subz Pads and Panties, a reusable, eco-friendly sanitary pad that clips onto a 100% cotton panty which lasts a minimum of five years.
Sue Barnes was recently selected to go to the prestigious Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) being held at Stanford University, California, from 22 to 24 June 2016. At the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, President Obama conversed with young entrepreneurs; Mai Medhat from Egypt, Jean Bosco Nzeyimana from Rwanda, Mariana Costa Checa from Peru and Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg about what governments can do to make things easier for people who want to build companies. President Barack Obama told an international audience at the seventh Global Entrepreneurship Summit that entrepreneurship is a bridge that connects the world for a more prosperous future.
Project Dignity, the non-profit extension of the organisation, distributes sponsored Subz packs to girls in schools and communities in rural areas across the country, empowering these teenagers through education and access to sanitary wear. Girls who come from poorer homes are often unable to afford sanitary products. They will make do with toilet paper or in many instances even share used sanitary pads. Embarrassed and stripped of their dignity they will either leave school early and not return until their period is over, or not attend school at all during this time. The impact on their education is disastrous.  Project Dignity has handed out over 50 000 Sanitary Pad and Panty Packs.
