Unknown to many, words actually originate from the content of the human spirit.
Now as this is a spiritual problem, it will be wise of us to consult the spiritual book to address this issue.
Every person is affected by words , whether at the receiving end or whether on the side of dishing them out.
With words we can :
Cause irreparable relationship damages (Through your words you'll be condemned) or you can build up relationships (Through your words you'll be saved) (Read Matthew 12:37).
So the words we speak (freedom of speech and expression) reveal something about our nature (The real you ; the real me).
The spoken word is a reflection of the spiritual condition.
Love covers a multitude of sins but hatred stirs up strife (Read 1Peter 4:8 and Proverbs 10:12).
A spoken word can uplift your spirit (mood); motivate and encourages you; demoralises you; offend you; can hurt someone's feelings (make you feel unworthy) ; can make you feel as if someone has thrown a bucket of cold water into your face.
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in trays of silver (Read Proverbs 25:11)
Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity (Read Proverbs 21:23). The problem is :How do we master this technique to control our mouths and our tongues ?
The Helper (God's Spirit) is available to help you to control the content of your own spirit.
To help you along life's journey, apply the Philippians 4:8 rule :
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable;If anything is excellent or praiseworthy;Think about such things¨. Yes it takes effort to set your mind on the right track.
To justify what we say, we come up with phrases like : I'm just saying ; All I said was ; I don'¦t mean what I'm saying.
Now instead of justifying the unloving and hurtful words we speak, we should rather follow the example of the apostle Paul and face up to the spiritual problem all of humanity is facing.
Read Romans 7 : 14-25 Just to summarise this passage : The apostle Paul explains the struggle between the carnal mind and the spiritual mind. The evil I do not want to do, that I do. And the good I want to do, that I don't do.
The fact is through our words we'll be condemned or saved.
Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless (Read James 1: 26).
So we see, we are facing a spiritual issue and not just a verbal issue of words.
In the final analysis the solution to control your words can be found in the golden rule of love :
Do unto others as you would have them done unto you (Read Matthew 7:12; Luke 6:31).
Also (Read Romans 13:8-10) Whatever commands there may be, are summed up in this one command: Love your neighbour as yourself.¨ Love does no harm to a neighbour. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Finally it will be wise if we all apply the famous words of Rudyard Kipling :
If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs.
After all a person is what he or she thinks (Read Proverbs 23:7)
