Jehovah’s Witnesses – Report back as promised

On the 11 August 2016 I posted up an article regarding the Conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses on News24 that would be running from September through to October in South Africa. Those conventions were titled ‘Remain Loyal to Jehovah’. Now that the English conventions are pretty much over I would like to share some of the responses I have received by e-mail. Not all of them are even related to the conventions at all, but considering that some of the responses were from Jehovah’s Witnesses I thought it only fair to publish those too, so that everyone gets heard and no one has reason to think I’m just being biased. Personal information has been redacted.

I was googled for something else and came across this rubbish of yours.

I don't understand the fact that they don't cry when their loved ones passes away ,also don't celebrate birthdays, actually that made me wonder what kind of lifestyle are they really living?

Hi there,

I am so disgusted with this MOST awful cruel cult. My friend left the cult after years, as she was not happy any longer with their teachings. And later divorced Except for one daughter who lived overseas the other three followed the cult. Years past and the youngest daughter and her family softened and would invite her Mom to spend a holiday with them once a year, The last time she was invited the daughter and nothing happened my friend asked what was happening and her Mother was told she was no longer welcome. This broke her heart and she no longer wanted to live. I spoke to the daughter and said she was the cause of all this and when her mom died, she wouldn’t be there shedding tears. She thanked me letting her know, there was another invite after that to the granddaughter’s wedding but the same thing happened. In the end this wonderful, sincere, well liked, loving lady passed on. When her sister, friends wanted to know about the funeral or service, we were all told there would be nothing and her ashes had been thrown in the sea. My friend hated the sea. The eldest daughter had requested the ashes but they wouldn’t allow her to have them. This loving daughter just can’t get over her mom’s passing and her heart is broken her sister got somebody to take her mom’s cloths and belongings away as she wanted nothing to do with it. The heart broken daughter was not allowed a thing!!!!! Now tell me who gives these self-righteous cult members to judge any one. What about The 10 Commandments when the Almighty tells us to honour your mother and father. Do they think they are above God to judge people? Hurting people like they do is unforgivable.

?I have also believed that they were Christians until I was a maid of honour for a friend earlier this year, so in our preparation I spend most days in her house, I’m a born again Christian I listen to mostly gospel music so while I was cleaning their house, I pumped up the volume on the TV listening to my gospel to my shock n surprise one of the cousins came up to telling I should never play that music in this house in my curiosity I didn’t understand till today and no one wanted to explain even praying for the wedding I was stopped.

What a free advertising for the JW conventions. Let the people judge for them self.

In their history, have they killed, execute or force people to follow their faith. Sect, big word. We see them in public places not hidden in some dodgy places.

Some might dislike them but let any grown up judge for them self. No harm to anyone.

Please be truthful not biased. I have friends and family members who are witnesses. There is nothing of such. I talk to them and joke with them.  You have individuals who are controlling freaks and Ignorant about living a free life in ALL the churches not only in Witnesses.  For you to have reach that general conclusion; you must conducted your Research and visited all the J Witness gatherings and interview everyone.

I found the article by accident and when I read the first paragraph I assumed that you were a witness promoting the convention dates and I was absolutely intrigued when I read on.  I grew up in a divided household - my mother, a witness and my father, opposed.  This caused a tremendous amount of stress in their marriage and, among many other things, eventually a divorce.  My mother, who is rather emotionally and mentally fragile, had one break down after the other and turned to alcohol (which nearly killed her) because of her fear of Armageddon.  She was disfellowshipped in the early 80s for smoking and has never been able to quit.  The worst part about this though is that she is still so blinded by their beliefs that she sees herself as the bad person and punishes herself by going to meetings and enduring their humiliating, self-righteous shunning of her.  She was told by an elder that if someone approaches her, she must put up her hand and not allow them to greet her.  I don't know why she puts herself through this but I try to be supportive about her beliefs and even drop her off and fetch her from meetings sometimes…..

There are a few more but I don’t want this article to be overlong.  To conclude this I would to share an experience that came out of Ghana. A man who attended the conventions there reported that he saw love of a mother for her daughter overcome the cruelty of shunning being encouraged from the platform.  The story is at this link: http://avoidjw.org/2016/08/shunning-the-shunning/

As always if you want to contact me my e-mail is speaktoasiza@gmail.com. If you have been following my articles for a while here I can tell you that not ONE JW family member or JW friend has contacted me since my first article was published here in February 2016.
