Open letter to Ahmed Kathrada

Dear Kathy,

On Saturday, at a workshop on Ethics and Leadership, you said:

"The responsibility is now on the shoulders of the youth, who are reaping the rewards of the freedom that had been fought for."

How can you, an intelligent man, a man who was willing to die for his principles, a man of Integrity, tell our young people, the majority of whom who lack education, skills and employment opportunities, who face a future destroyed by the party that betrayed the very principles you struggled for, that they are 'reaping the rewards of freedom'?

HOW DARE YOU!!

How can you lie so blatantly? How can you possibly believe that the majority of young South Africans today are 'reaping' any benefits from your struggle against the apartheid regime when two thirds of our children grow up in households earning less than R1500 pm, when more than 50% of them drop out of school before grade 12, and around 70% of youngsters under the age of 30 have no chance of ever finding employment?
You insult your own sacrifices, and the sacrifices of those who fought alongside you to bring today's youth a brighter future. Today you have lowered yourself into the sewer of self-aggrandisement and denialism with Zuma.

Today you deny your party's betrayal of our young people, and this country's future. Today you have turned your back on all you struggled for. Today you have shown Madiba, your comrade during 20 years of imprisonment, the Finger. Today you have made mockery of all the heroes who fought for democracy and a brighter future.

Today you have abandoned your principles and integrity as a human being.

Shame on you, Kathy.
