Parliament: What’s the punchline?

In recent days our parliament has been a showcase for the fine art of throwing insults and punches at the opposition that the whole nation has started a betting process as to the timing of the first fists to fly. The last time it took about ten minutes and pundits have it at five minutes the next time around. It is no longer a case of ‘will someone be physically assaulted in parliament’ but a case of ‘when’. In all honesty it all has become a worldwide joke. I have seen some examples of similar fracases from foreign parliaments in South African media evidently trying to project the image that not only South Africans have misunderstandings in parliament but other nations as well. I guess we all have to do our national duty. We all have to do our patriotic duty I suppose. I have carried the South African flag myself and have parried our embarrassments with such guile rivaled only but the subtle guise of a ninja. I had to do my patriotic duty. It wouldn’t kill our politicians to give us something positive once in a while but such is the stench of the vitriol that stems out of their persons that it is hard to hold a straight face at the mere mention of South Africa. They have soiled our beautiful name. We once were. We are no more. They have destroyed us and the worst part about it is that they are not done yet. We continue being glued to our television sets as the laughing hyenas continue to loot and plunder our coffers and making us like it. They make us like it by telling us jokes and we oblige by laughing too. We are too nice. We keep expecting them to stop their wayward ways and come back to being human but they have gone way past that point already. You can tell by how they use God to sanction their crooked ways. Such brazenness. As I watch all of this my heart breaks. I know now that there is one of two ways that our future will pan out. One; we wake up and realize that enough is enough and stop these criminals and send them where they belong, in jail. Or two; we continue watching with mouths agape as they sell our resources to the highest bidder and us continue to live in poverty. It really is that simple. As we sit and watch on the comedy show going on; the biggest punchline is yet to be delivered. The question is; will you find it funny or will you find yourself having to laugh regardless?
