Public must take action against violent university strikes

Students from universities around South Africa have been striking in an attempt to encourage officials to lower their fees. However, these strikes are becoming uncontrollable and as a result, therefore, decides the fate of many future students who wish to further their studies.

Strikers not only prevent their own studies but also disrupt lectures from taking place so as to stop others from being productive. With rumours going around that current students will have to repeat this year, what will happen to the students who matriculate this year? Will they not beable to study and lose a year of their lives due to the incompetence of others? These strikes continue to add to the tumultuous stress of matriculants!

If students desire that their pleas be heard, they should behave in a civilised and decent manner! Stoning vehicles and destroying universities is not going to make university fees fall. Instead, it will increase it in order to facilitate the damages! How is it possible that these strikers think that their actions will make fees fall when if they destroy university property, there will be nowhere to study at all! What difference will it make then?

Students continue to act in a most uncivilised manner! This is our South Africa and it is our responsibility to protect its reputation as well as its properties! We, local citizens, need to take a stand against these violent protests! We can no longer tolerate it! We need to also educate our children that violence is never a solution!

University fees may be really high and unaffordable and, therefore, other solutions such as marches or petitions are available for students who believe that fees are too high. We should make use of these ideas in order to be a country that is at peace with itself as well as others!
