Taxi tragedy must call us to action

Dear Minister,

I have just read with sorrow that another taxi accident has claimed the lives of approximately 20 school kids. This on top of the several taxi accidents that claimed the lives of many people just this week..

This has got to stop and the responsibility for action lies in your hands. I realize that you are new in the job but if your support team has not solved the problem, then get rid of them. This must not be dismissed as some BS white colonial plea, these are lives that we are talking about

Your department must have statistics on the injuries + fatalities that have arisen from taxi accidents over various periods – the fact that these drivers continue to drive on the roads (in the public service) with their reckless behaviour (to put it mildly) and with sometimes unroadworthy vehicles is just not acceptable.

As with murder, rape, robbery, etc. we just come to accept these statistics as normal – well tell that to 20 parents that sent their kids off to school today and they will never see them alive again, they will never return home again. SHOCKING, SHOCKING, SHOCKING is all I can say.

I appeal to you Minister to reign these hooligans in and stop this disrespect and carnage on our roads. Take a hard line with absolutely ZERO tolerance – I cannot think of one person that will not support you 100%, apart from the taxi industry thugs.

Regards,
Wilfred Allen
