The not-so-new game of South African chess

Clicking through the news and trying to compartmentalize all this information is an exhausting task. Especially if you are attempting to remain as objective as humanly possible.

Scroll through international news articles and you are bombarded with murder, wars, refugees, terrorism, election lies and more..

South African news goes viral quicker than a cat playing a harmonica video.

People are angry, people are fighting and as we know if we care to admit, people are selfish. I’m not saying anything new merely offering a fresh perspective.

Filtering through all the self-righteous wars and political rhetoric. For a second ignoring the clashes between religions and races. We all really want the same thing. Comfort.

By comfort I mean food, housing, clothing.

Ironically all wars are fought to achieve peace. The problem is, the definition of “peace” differs from person to person.
Let me elaborate..

How many of us imagine a peaceful utopia for all?
In South Africa I will admit the “Rainbow Nation” ideology is far fetched. It is indeed an ideal.

Listen to “leaders” and politicians. You always need to pick a side.

To a large extent black is “fighting” for black and white is “fighting” for white. Where does that leave the “Born-Free’s” and passive South Africans?

The big South African chessboard. Very few are fighting for the chessboard which we were hoping would be turned multicoloured after 94'.  Even many feminists are now fighting for superiority cloaked in “equality”
Because South Africa is still very engaged in a tense game of chess, everything remains black and white. Things that weren’t originally intended to be.

Why Sharks rugby player Kolisi and his wife are still getting hated on for their interracial marriage, in 2016, baffles me.

Who is going to close the box on this backward and counterproductive game of Mzansi chess?

Fees Must Fall as another headline, is not supposed to be racial.

People like Ntsiki  and Steve are very good at turning everything into a racial clash. Both thinking their cause is noble. Both actually “fighting” for themselves and “their own people”. Why is there still no South African side? Am I missing a bigger picture perhaps?

Jacob Zuma isn’t a horrible president because of his colour. He needs to be criticised for his actions or lack thereof. Note that JZ is used purely because of his relevance in the news for the last 2 years.

People aren’t corrupt because of their race or hopefully culture.

I took a detour to arrive at this question..

Do you want a better Mzansi for you or for all?
