Voters: Mindless Sheep?

In this godforsaken country of ours, one can only shake one’s head at the naivety of the mindless masses (MMS’s) who make up the vast majority of voters.

Here’s a question:

Just how educated, rational, informed, and free of superstition is average citizen of South Africa? Before you answer this question, let me give you an example:

On Saturday, Zuma performed onstage for the ANC’s MMS’s at the Siyanqoba rally, in Nelson Mandela Bay. Now, keep in mind that his supporters are supposed to be rational adults who have the power to vote. In other words, these people must make informed decisions on which political party should govern the country.

Zuma, being the clever old fox he is, decided to cover all his bases. So this is what he did:

Firstly, the event started with traditional healers chasing away bad spirits.

Secondly, impepho smoke was burned by the sangomas to ensure the demise of Athol Trollip of the DA.

Thirdly, the healers called on the ancestors to bless the ANC.

Fourthly, they had a prayer service, calling for God to come through for the ANC.

And lastly, just in case all of the above hocus-pocus failed, Zuma sang his signature song, Umshini Wam.

The Mindless Masses lapped it up! They had brand new ANC T-shirts, caps, doeks, and jackets! There was singing, ululation, dancing, and overwhelming excitement! They promised to support Zuma and the ANC until Jesus comes! Or even longer, if necessary!

Eish! Eish! Lots of Eish! The mind boggles at this spectacle of foolishness.

So… here’s that question again:

Just how educated, rational, informed, and free of superstition is average citizen of South Africa?

You tell me.
