What will happen when the ANC ultimately loses power?

We’ve all heard it at some stage, some ANC members claiming that the ANC will rule until Jesus returns. Whether that be the truth or otherwise, one day the ANC will lose the grip of the power machinery. A different political party (or a coalition of more than one) will be the majority governing party. The question is what will happen then?

For now, I am not talking about anything except its current ability to “bulldoze” through scandals of corruption, and the continued protection of the president, who many view as unfit to hold office – alleged corruption, wasteful of  tax payers’ money, and of course the failure to uphold and defend the Constitution.

I’ve just mentioned one person, who is currently the leader of the ANC and the first citizen of South Africa, but already the list has some REALLY concerning, serious but unresolved issues. One, then, wonders what the “complete picture”. Do things look any good when we look at the ANC in general, today? It already sounds like one has reached a conclusion that the African National Congress is a political party infested with corrupt politicians; and if media reports are to go by, that tentative conclusion hold some weight. The list of stories on such issues are indeed reported on every single day is too long for counting.

That said, and given the antagonism already displayed by the opposition parties, it might be safe to guess that any party that follows as the governing party, after the ANC is likely to wish to have many of them investigated for the alleged corrupt activities. Unless of course in that event, the governing party is a coalition of the ANC and another political party – then the ANC would still have some influence.

There are many aspects (peaceful handover of power, introduction of new economic policy, would we have the BEE still, etc.) to consider, but due to limited space, I am leaving it at that. If anything though, fate is the ultimate judge, so we wait.
