Zuma would laugh when asked about unemployment.....

Mr Zuma can laugh what he wants.......but.....

A study of McKinsy (mid 2015) referred and analyzed the negative influences on future employment or "availability of jobs" as it is know today.

The following list gives an overview what they define as "destructive technologies" which are expected to destroy jobs over the period till round 2030.

The current situation of employment world wide:

Disruptive technologies:

Mobile Internet Increasingly inexpensive and capable mobile computing devices and Internet connectivity

Automation of knowledge work Intelligent software systems that can perform knowledge work tasks involving unstructured commands and subtle judgments

The Internet of Things Networks of low-cost sensors and actuators for data collection, monitoring, decision making, and process optimization

Cloud technology Use of computer hardware and software resources delivered over a network or the Internet, often as a service

Advanced robotics Increasingly capable robots with enhanced senses, dexterity, and intelligence used to automate tasks or augment humans

Autonomous and near-autonomous vehicles Vehicles that can navigate and operate with reduced or no human intervention

Next-generation genomics Fast, low-cost gene sequencing, advanced big data analytics, and synthetic biology (“writing” DNA)

Energy storage Devices or systems that store energy for later use, including batteries

3D printing Additive manufacturing techniques to create objects by printing layers of material based on digital models

Advanced materials Materials designed to have superior characteristics (e.g., strength, weight, conductivity) or functionality

Advanced oil and gas exploration and recovery Exploration and recovery techniques that make extraction of unconventional oil and gas economical

Renewable energy Generation of electricity from renewable sources with reduced harmful climate impact

The following is the status of unemployment in the period of early 2015. Japan is on top with 4% of the working population. SA is at the bottom with a record 24% of the working population being unemployed.

The analysis of the above does creates a very somber expectation for the people who will rely on jobs for an income.

The optimistic noises of the SA politicians who are promising jobs to the SA people should be reading this kind of information seriously and work it into their information to the SA public.

Mr Zuma can indeed start laughing when you ask him about employment but for a different reason.

I do smile about the DA who is currently promising jobs as an invitation to vote. They might fall on their promises just as the ANC did.

  ___________  The future______________

Read an interview with Muhammad Yunus:

He has successfully moved the job world in Bangladesh by pioneering and spreading "micro-finance".  He established the Grameen Bank which offers Microcredit wich offers financial facilities to the small business man. This assist in opening business opportunities for creating and supporting products and services delivered by the poor for the poor.

The philosophy behind the movement is  to concentrate on service and delivery and not necessarily on profit.

All worth the effort to read and try to understand this new movement of "social business" which could well lead to reducing poverty..
