15 school kids hurt in Durban taxi crash

Durban – Fifteen primary school children were injured when their school transport collided with a pole in Cato Manor on Thursday, paramedics said.

The pupils, aged between 6 and 9, were on their way home from various schools when the driver of their Toyota Venture veered off the road and crashed into the concrete pole in Ridge View, Cato Manor, Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said.

The children were treated at the scene and taken to hospital.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said the accident happened on Russell Mngomezulu Road around 14:00, when the driver apparently lost control of the minibus.

All the occupants, including the driver, were taken to hospital for check-ups.

Cato Manor police are investigating a case of reckless or negligent driving.
