2 escape from Witbank prison

Witbank – Police are searching for two inmates who escaped from the Witbank Correctional Centre on Thursday, the Department of Correctional Services said on Saturday.

The department’s spokesperson Manelisi Wolela said Mduduzi Johnson Khubheka and Vusimuzi Geraald Skosana wrestled with a female official and escaped through the main gate of the perimeter fence.

He said the two drove off with another official’s car, which was later found abandoned after it went into a ditch.

The vehicle’s key was still in the ignition and a cellphone was left in the vehicle, he said.

“The public is advised to report any suspicion or information regarding the escapees to the police and not take the law into their own hands,” said Wolela.
