Johannesburg - A man was sentenced in the Western Cape High Court, sitting in Beaufort West on Thursday, to two life sentences for murder, Western Cape police said.
Captain Bernadine Steyn said Nathan Meintjies, 28, received two life sentences on two counts of murder and five years for theft.
On 22 January this year Meintjies picked up Jan Lowrens, 35, and off-duty police Warrant Officer Glenwill Kelly, 43, in Donkin Street, Beaufort West.
"He was requested by the deceased to take them home. The accused drove to Vaal Koppies Road, where he took the Warrant Officer Kelly's official 9mm firearm. He shot Lowrens once in his head and Kelly five times in his head."
Their bodies were found the following day by a member of the public next to the gravel road.
Meintjies was arrested on 23 January at his house in Beaufort West.
He was found guilty by the court on 25 November on two counts of murder and one of theft.
